Couldnt find the old B'ball thread, but I dont feel a need to justify creating such a thread, as we still are the current World and European champs.

Zvezda is awesome this year, we're playing in 2 leagues, the Serbo Montenegrin league and the Adriatic league. We have a team where experience is combined with youth and tonight we won yet another game again coming one step closer to reaching the final 4 which will also be held in Belgrade.

C.Zvezda - Bosna 120:71

STRELCI:
Pavicevic -,Dozet 5, Koprivica 9, Tica 16, Bolic 19, Cakic 6, Silobad 16, Radovic 15, Ekezie 19, Bjelica 3, Pen 6, Gajic 6 poena i 8 asistencija.

Bola in great form lately, same goes for ex NBA star Ekezie. Good to see Vladimir Tica and young Gajic do well. Of course James "Skuni" (kako ga mi zovemo) Penn was solid as always.

The table now looks like this:

1. Maccabi Tel Aviv 13-4
2. Crvena Zvezda 12-5
3. Krka 10-7
4. Cibona VIP 10-7
5. Union Olimpija 11-5
6. Zadar 10-7
7. Zagreb 9-8
8. Lasko 7-10
9. Borac Nektar 5-12
10. Split CO 6-9
11. FEAL Siroki 5-10
12. Bosna Asa 1-15

Who can stop us ?!

In other B'ball news the draw for this years European Championship was made. It'll be held in Sweden.

Group A: Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Israel
Group B: Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Ukraine
Group C: Serbia & Montenegro, Spain, Russia, Sweden
Group D: France, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia

Tough group we got, Spain and Russia are usually medal-contenders so we wont have an easy time against them. Still the sheer amount of quality we have should be enough to top this group.

Divac probably wont be playing and it's all but certain Pedja will be there, still a lot of talent left think of Koturovic, Jaric, Radmanovic, Drobnjak, Vujanic , Bodiroga, Gurovic and perhaps even the new #1 draft pick in the NBA, Darko Milicic. :)

Why do I get the feeling none of u like basketball? :)

Anyway after having beaten Split CO earlier this week (88-66), we're facing one of the biggest games of this year. Cibona is coming!

We already made the final 4 of the Adriatic league and Cibona still has sth to fight for, so it'll be a good matchup, the result of the first game between our 2 teams u can read in my sig.

TABELA GOODYEAR LIGA
1. Maccabi Tel Aviv 16-4
2. Crvena Zvezda 15-5
3. Union Olimpija 15-5
4. Cibona VIP 12-8
5. Zadar 12-8
6. Krka 11-9
7. Zagreb 11-9
8. FEAL Siroki 8-12
9. Lasko 7-13
10. Split CO 7-13
11. Borac Nektar 5-15
12. Bosna Asa 1-19

Another interesting fact:

Poredjenja radi, finale engleskog liga kupa izmedju Liverpula i Mancestera u direktnom prenosu pratilo je oko 950 hiljada ljudi, a nesto vise i mec 17.kola Frikom YUBA lige izmedju Zdravlja i Hemofarma.

Kada se vide i uporede svi ovi podaci , onda ne zacudjuje da se sponzori sve vise interesuju za nas klub i utakmice naseg tima.

Shows how big the sport is in Serbia, almost 1,5 million viewers this weekend, whereas the Man Utd-Liverpool match only got 950.000.

First a big hello to everybody. :)

About the European Championship, I am not very optimistic. There are several reasons:

1. All this fuss around our coach. It's March and we still don't even know who the coach of our NT is! Maljkovic was the perfect choice, but obviously that is not going to work out. I hear the most likely replacement is Vujosevic (of course, backed by Danilovic), but I really don't feel he is the right solution for our NT, because I find his work with Partizan so far not very impressive.

2. Divac won't be there, neither will Rebraca and Drobnjak is doubtful. This of course means we will be vulnerable under the hoops, with only Tomasevic there to battle it out.

3. Looks as if Radmanovic won't be playing this year, apparently he also needs a "break".

4. Bodiroga is also doubtful

With all this add the fact that we are in an extremely tough group, both Spain and Russian have great teams which at full force can beat us.

Maybe it wouldn't be that bad after all to have a bad Euro, and get all the players pumped for the next competition...

RSF good to see u back, though I'm sure u'd rather still be up there..:)

I think we'll still be capable of fielding a team that would certainly be in the race for the title.

I agree the mess surrounding the coach didnt help us at all, but hopefully they'll soon settle it, and vujosevic is a good choice.
Under the hoops we'll also have Koturovic, Radmanovic and co will be missed but with guys like askrabic, milicic, vujanic, koprivnica doing well in our league it might be good to give them the lead this time.

It wont be easy, but I have confidence in these guys, at least they have the right mentality...

Drulo, you bet your a$$ I'd still want to be there. :D

I hope you're right about the NT, even though I still believe players like Askrabic, Milicic etc. are too young to handle the burden of battling it out for a European Championship. I'd be way more optimistic if at least Bodiroga and Drobnjak were there.
Don't forget, Spain beat us when we had almost our full squad (even though I admit that at the WC we were far from playing at our best) so caution is required. I have the feeling our fans take it for granted that we are invincible in basketball and that trophies are meant just for us.. I am sure the rest of Europe are pretty much sick of us and they can hardly wait to knock us off..

Still, I am going to wait and see the developments regarding the coach and players to give my final verdict when it comes to our success this year. One thing is for sure, a full squad (with Drobnjak, Radmanovic, Stojakovic, Jaric, Bodiroga, Gurovic, Milicic etc.), well prepared, would destroy any European team... :)

Good to know u like the sport, and Aca will eat those words come tomorrow.. :fero:

About that being 950.000 too many, Serbs watch everything there is to watch when it comes to football, I'm sure the majority would prefer Italian and Spanish football though.

Oh and I saw what "flikker" boy has..all I can say is..:howler:
