Israelim in the Aussie Open

Ram and Erlich to play dubs of course
They started the season well, finals of ATP Madras

Smashnova-Pistolesi and Obziler to play womens singles

Levy, Hadad and Okun all lost in the singles qualifiers, particularly dissapointing for Levy who was the No.2 seed and was expected to go through as he was playing well lately (2nd round of ATP Madras)

Sport 5 mentioned something about Ram not playing the singles qualies and Sela missing a flight (??) that could be wrong

Both Smashnova and Obziler won their first round matches in 2 sets and are through to the next round. Smashnova beat Klara Koukalova and Obziler beat Martina Sucha. Obziler will face 29th ranked Natalie Dechy while Smashnova will face an unranked opponent she should go through.

Today Erlich and Ram (ranked 14th) will kick off their matches Wednesday morning against a Spaniard duo. Harel Levi will play along with Mikhail Youzhni against a French duo, but I believe this is only on Thursday morning.

Good luck to all.

Recap of last 2 days of play:

Erlich and Ram advanced to the 2nd round after being a Spanish duo (one of them was Juan Carlos Ferrero).

Smashnova and Obziler both lost to French players in the 2nd round.
Harel Levy and Mikhail Youzhny lost in the first round to a French double (no luck against the French it seems).

All we have left now is Erlich and Ram.

After a few less than flattering results so far, an important one to mention is Yoni Erlich and his mixed doubles partner Liezel Huber (RSA) are in the mixed doubles semifinals, they will play Leander Paes and Martina Navritalova. In the quarters they took out the #1 seeds...

Good Luck:smileani:

Other news:
Ram and Erlich were eliminated in the 2nd round of the doubles tournament, disappointing on their behalf.
Ram and Petra Mandula in the mixed doubles were eliminated in the 1st round.

As Carpe mentioned, Erlich and Huber are in the mixed semis.

Shahar Peer, our young representative is in the quarter finals of the girls juniors tournament and the girls doubles juniors tournament, good luck to her on both tournaments.

Erlich and Huber have been eliminated at the semi finals by Paes and Navratilova.

Peer and her doubles partner Jarmila Vajdosova have won their quarter finals match and advanced to the semis.

So, all we have left is Peer in the semis of singles and doubles, very well done.

Shahar Peer has advanced to the finals!!! Another 2 set victory will have her facing the 3rd ranked Vaidiosova from the Czech Republic.

In the doubles Peer has been eliminated in the semi finals.

Good luck Shahar in the final!

I managed to get a glimpse of erlich on ESPN unfortunately he was on the losing end of all three (wow!) points they showed in which navratilova and paes were in control. Good luck to Peer, take home that trophy!

CHAMPIONS!!!

YES YES YES, Shahar Peer has won the girls championship at the Australian Open!!!!

Peer beat Vaidiosova 6:1 6:4 and has captured the title after losing only one set in the whole tournament.

Congrats to Shahar and we hope that this talent will also become a talent in adult women tennis in the future.
