Next Wednesday in the Amsterdam Arena

Doel: Edwin Villafuerte (Deportivo Quito), Cristian Mora (Liga de Quito)
Verdediging: Jorge Guagua (El Nacional), Ulises De la Cruz (Aston Villa, Eng), Néicer Reasco (Liga de Quito), Paúl Ambrossi (Liga de Quito), Giovanni Espinoza (Liga de Quito), Iván Hurtado (Al Arabi, Qat)

Middenveld: Segundo Castillo (El Nacional), Marlon Ayoví (Derpotivo Quito), Patricio Urrutia (Liga de Quito), Cristian Lara (El Nacional), Edison Méndez (Liga de Quito), Luis Antonio Valencia (Recreativo, Spa)

Aanval: Cristian Benítez (El Nacional), Félix Borja (El Nacional), Carlos Tenorio (Al-Sadd, Qat), Agustín Delgado (Liga de Quito) en Felipe Caicedo (FC Basel)

Anyone ever heard of them? only seen Augustin Delgado and de la Cruz in real life while CM fans will probably know bargain buy Ivan Hurtado. I have heard of Ivan Kaviedes (from Crystal Palace) and Alex Aguinaga (from Necaxa, remember him from the club world cup) but they won't be there. Other than that, can't say much about them, but I guess the lack of stars and them qualifying mean they probably play well as a team.

As for us, hope van Basten picks Hofs :hopefull: he's more in form than both Landzaat & Lothar and it wouldn't hurt to give him a shot even though I too would have laughed at him being picked say a year ago.

I think it will be a easy but small win :) 2-0 maybe, both goals by Kuyt :proud:

Kind a odd that such a side ended ahead of the likes of Uruguay and Colombia, while they only have two players playing abroad for a decent side. For two others we can even ask the help of De Boertjes to rate them.

Ecuador only qualified because of the altitude factor, their capital is so high above sea level and was a big disadvantage to any visiting team

needless to say, they made most of their points in their home games, and got destroyed everytime they went away

I am personally hoping my new fave player KJH gets started in this game

Middenveld: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (FC Barcelona), Phillip Cocu (PSV), Nicky Hofs (Feyenoord), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax).

Aanval: Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Martijn Meerdink (AZ), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV).

Hofs :proud:

v Persie, Ooijer, Sneijder all injured. No Kromkamp too but that was to be expected with his 5 minute appearances for Liverpool. Makaay and Davids also not called up. van der Vaart also not in but that's probably just precautionary after just recovering from an injury.

Van Vossen Meerdink makes the squad though after injurying himself badly last time out. Same with Lothar.

Hope to see especially Jaliens, Hofs, Boateng and Castelen given a run out come Wednesday

Selectie Nederlands elftal

Doel: Henk Timmer (AZ) en Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United).
Verdediging: Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Tim de Cler, Kew Jaliens, Joris Mathijsen en Barry Opdam (allen AZ), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord) en Khalid Boulahrouz (HSV).
Middenveld: Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Nicky Hofs (Feyenoord), George Boateng (Middlesbrough) en Phillip Cocu (PSV).
Aanval: Martijn Meerdink (AZ), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Romeo Castelen, Dirk Kuijt (beiden Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United) en Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV).

Due to injuries you miss a couple of good ones of course, cause I don't want to see that many AZ'ers in the final squad to be honest. Meerdink is performing below average at the moment, De Cler ain't good enough and also guys like Opdam and Jaliens are nice for AZ, but for Oranje.... I really hope Jan will get some decent playing time at Liverpool and that Theo will regain his form, since they're the best options at rightback for example.

Opdam can handle it... he's great.
Marco doesn't have many other options does he?
I think however that Boulahrouz and Mathijsen will start.

Jaliens is a good choice as rightback, he's fast and can act offensive.
I rather have Kromkamp but since he's not a starter for Liverpool I understand.

Opdam is a poor man's Frank de Boer imo. He will only cope if his teammates are in shape as well. He's not the kind of player who will stand up if things aren't going the way they should. Jaliens is a prime example of 'net niet', just like Tim de Cler.

I think KJH is well overdue a callup by now... he deserves to have a go to prove his worth, and this would have been a good oppertunity to test him

I think Huntelaar is indeed ready for it... his time will come though.
But you have to understand that he has a RVN and Kuijt before him.

Khalid Boulahrouz moet afzeggen voor Oranje

26/2/2006 21:54

How is Greene doing as a rightback? He was pretty impressive in the center, especially his runs. So I thought he could be the best option at the right, but obviously San Marco thinks differently. I have to admit that I haven't seen much of him (or Feyenoord) since he's playing at the right, so again, how is he doing?

He's done okay, nothing out of the ordinary though. It'd probably be too early to draw any conclusions yet but looking at the way things are going with others, if he carries on doing his job, he might have a decent shout at getting the position full time.

Castelen's out of it. Looks like van Vossen Meerdink will start instead :sigh:

btw for those interested, this'll be the test Kalou will have to pass to become a Dutchman

Damn, I have to go. Eventhough I started well. :frownani:

Although seeing the answers now I can't believe I had a 4.2, since I had more than half the questions right.

I think you guys are underrating the Ecuadorian team, you will have to watch out for Valencia, the midfielder. Bolivia has a even bigger advantage when it coems to altitude, they stil managed to not make it. I think Ecuador will surprise you guys.
