Optimistic for 2002-03?

I don't know about you but I'm pretty optimistic about next year, having practically given up on the title for this one. I think that hopefully GH can add some quality midfielders, especially a wide player, and a striker to the squad.

I'd love to see overmars at Anfield and I think the club could be a new lease of life for his rotting career at Anfield. As for Emerton, I haven't see him play, but I've heard he's very good.

The striker I would like to see at the club next season is Anelka, I think his potential is enormous (1998-9) and with GH's guidance he will be able to improve his scoring rate and consistency. I saw a glimpse of what he was capable of against Newcastle when, although he didn't score, his performance was out of this world. Ciise is awesome I know, but Auxerre aren't willing to sell just yet and he wants to stay in France for another year or two. Besides even if they did accept an offer it would have to be £20m+ and toher top clubs would soon be interested, so we'll do without him for a while.

These are the players I want GH to sell and buy:

Sell :
Diomede
Heggem
Berger
Smicer

Sign:
Overmars (if not him then Duff)
Emerton
Anelka

I'd love to see us line up next year something like this:

Owen Anelka

Overmars Gerrard Emerton
Hamann

Riise Hyypia Henchoz Babbel

Dudek

-How does that team look to you?
-What would your realistic dream team be for next year?
-How do you want to sign and sell over the summer?
-Are you optimistic for next season?
-And finally, (although totally irrelevant to LFC) who do you think will win the World Cup this Summer? I think it'll be France.

The season's not finished yet, but I'm already looking forward to the next one, like you Red Mist. I really can't see Arsenal dropping 4 points from their remaining games...I think the title's in the bag. Deservedly so as well as they've been the best team by a mile in my opinion.

So onto next season....

I AM actually quite optimistic about next season. Here's why:

1. We have our manager back! :D :D :D

2. Hopefully Markus Babbel will be fit for the start of the season, which is a massive boost. The team really have missed the strong German's surging runs down the right flank.

3. Likewise Nick Barmby. He provided good competition to Vladimir and scored a lot of important goals for us last season...the nearest player we have to Ljungberg IMHO.

4. The signings which we'll make for next season. Zidane, Trezeguet, Thuram and Harry Kewell will all be Liverpool players next season! ;)
Well OK, maybe not but it's nice to dream... :)

Talking about players, I'd love to see us sign a top quality, ball-playing center-half to partner Sami. I know Henchoz has had another great season; yes he's "Mr Consistency", but after watching Leverkuson give ManYoo a good seeing too with their Brazilian - Lucio, also very impressive, I think the management team should do a little re-thinking and bring in a ball player at the back to further aid the development of the team. Someone with a bit of pace would be handy also. :)

In midfield it would be great if we could have a player in the middle with that spark of genius to give Owen and co the perfect service. Or a tricky winger down the right would be very nice. Hell, why not both! Anelka up front will do me fine also... :)

I think we will sign Emerton as he sounds like he's a "GH player". From all accounts he's hard working, has a good engine and is a forceful player with quite a bit of trickery and skill to boot. Basically a right-sided version of Jon Arne Riise. Can't be bad! :D Also, maybe the rumours about Hamann going to Real Madrid/Bayern Munich ARE true. There's been a lot of speculation, and you know what they say, "no smoke without fire", and all that... :(

Taking all that into consideration, here's what I think Gerard's thinking:

Anelka/Owen

Litmanen

Riise/Gerrard/Emerton

Vignal/Hyypia/Henchoz/Babbel

Dudek

This is my thinking...

I will be optimistic about the next year as long as we build upon what we have already done... our defence is solid and that means Dudek, Henchoz and Hyypia are all staying.

The full backs however can be changed... we could bring in Mr Wayne Bridge for the left and put Babbel on the right.
If Babbell's progress is not as good as we all hope it will be then Carragher can take the RB position:)

The midfield is what we really really need to change cos lets be honest it is a big pile of ****.
Hamaan and Gerrard compliment each other and should remain and stay at all time in the centre.
At no circumstance should Stevie be forced to play on the right... he can do it well but that's only because he is ****ing amazing... take him out of the centre and you are losing so much.

So we need a left winger and a right winger... no suprises there then:)

My dream would be Killy but lets be honest that is never going to happen... I mean there is slight rationing behind it but it is very slight.

Bear with me... Valencia will want to get rid of Killy as the younger Spanish Vicente is coming on leaps and bounds and both can not play in the same team BUT Valencia do not want to sell him to a rival Spanish club.

Still with me...gooood... right Killy does not like the style of play in Italy... it is to defensivly orrientated so he eyes a move to England or Germany.

Of the big clubs Liverpool are the only real option as they have a hole in that position wheras the other big teams (Leverkushen, Munich, ManUre and Arsenal) do not need a left sided player.

What logic:);)

Failing him Duff would be nice or maybe Savio who surely will leave Real Madrid this summer (he may just get killed in the PL though:))

Overmars would be way down the list of players that I would want to play on the left side of our midfield but if he must come then ok:(

The right side is much harder to decide though... sadly as it turns out.
Maybe Jo Cole or Simon Davies could be bought but both would be pretty expensive and playing ultimatly out of position (both are better IMO in the centre of midfield)...

Up front I don't really want Anelka to come in... depending on the situation at Leeds and who they are going to sell I think it would be well worthwhile making a bid for Robbie Keane.

My team... maybe:)

Ah, come on, he ain't coming:eek::D
And why don't you want Overmars to come?
As for my team....;)
Code:
             Dudek/Kirkland

Babbel/Xavier Hyppia Henchoz Vignal/Carragher

                      Hamann

Emerton/Barmby Gerrard/Murphy Overmars/Riise

         Owen/Anelka Heskey/Anelka
And Red Mist, I think Argentina will win the WC:cool::D

oh missed the WC question... um I think there are 2 red hot favorates and they are Argentina and Italy.

France are next but I just think that their luck has to run out soon...

Brazil are up there if Ronaldo is fit... the guy is that good.

No-one else stands a chance IMO.

On the Overmars thing... the reason I don't want him is that I am fed up with us buying players who top teams don't really want... surely we should be looking higher than this?

We are on course to finish second in the PL... lets get a big player... what about Van Bommell if we sell Mr Hamaan?

Or even a player like Ze Roberto... just someone who we have to beat off a big club to sign :depressed: When was the last time a big player chose us over anyone of note?

Litmanen:star:
Yeah, I like the idea of using Vignal at Left Back although I definitely don't want Henchoz or Didi out of the team.

Kily would be good too, but I honestly don't think we'll get him. If Valencia become Spanish champions they're going to want strength in depth. Joe Cole is another option but WH would surely want £20m+ for him. Yeah, Simon Davies would be a good addition to the squad I think, he's so energetic and tricky.
Litmanen.. he chose Barca over us even though we were supposedly his favourate team:mad:

and also he could not get anywhere near the Barca side at the time:(

But when he did come to Anfield, didn't he choose us ahead of other big clubs who were also interested in him?
Yeah, he did. Both Ajax and Arsenal were linked with moves for him at the same time we got him, but I'm not sure if they actually offered him contracts.
