Santos moves to Switzerland

Swiss league leaders FC Zurich have signed Tunisia striker Francileudo dos Santos.

The 27-year-old moves on loan from French club Toulouse until the end of the season.

"Santos is exactly what we have been looking for, he has international experience and will be able to help us out," said FC Zurich coach Lucien Favre.

Zurich, who are seeking a Champions League place, will make the deal permanent if the Brazil-born impresses during his six-month stint.

Santos scored 53 goals in 144 league matches for Sochaux before joining Toulouse.

But he has failed to reproduce the same level of form since leaving Sochaux in 2005.

Its been a tough year for Tunisians in Europe, other than David Jemmali, Jawhar Mnari and Radhi Jaidi (playing in D2) none have really had a good season:

Man City release winger Beasley

Manchester City have confirmed that DaMarcus Beasley, 24, will be sent back to PSV Eindhoven this summer. The United States international winger joined City on a year-long loan at the start of the season. With Trevor Sinclair and Stephen Jordan already confirmed as leaving, Beasley is the biggest name among the six other players City have said will be going. Also out is Hatem Trabelsi, Djamel Abdoun, Ashley Williams, Laurence Matthewson and Nathan D'Laryea.

Hagui and Jemma had fairly solid seasons at Leverkeussen and Lens but it's true it's been an off year for euro based Tunisians.

Haggui had a decent season. He was good some games and terrible in others. I think one game he was replaced before the first half finished. Jemaa was good too, but I believe he was used mostly as a joker at Lens? In any case, like you figured, I meant that its been an off year, Tunisians are usually in the thick of most leagues in Europe!

PS. What is up with all these Tunisians moving to Switzerland?? Chikhaoui to FC Zurich when he had the likes of Lens chasing him, not the best move :|

Money and playing time. Ligue 1 sides are talent ladden can't afford to be inconsistent, guess they figure they'll perform far better in Switzerland.
