Eagles | Contract update: Rocca
Sat, 20 Jan 2007 09:40:07 -0800

Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with Australian Football League P Salverio Rocca. The deal is for a non-guaranteed three-year contract. Australia's National Nine TV news show first reported Rocca would sign with the team. "It's mixed feelings, because it's quite exciting if you make it and go all the way. That environment, for the family, it's a bit hectic, because we're just not sure how far we're going to go... They can terminate the contract after 1 day if they want to. I've got to get over there and show 'em that I'm fairly good and I can kick just as good as, if not better than, who they've got there at the moment," Rocca said. He expects to arrive in Philadelphia in late March, but said he is not sure if he will bring his family right away.
Is he good? Will he make towering punts for us? Is he accurate in his kicks? Our field is usually 100 yards long....usually punters kick 60-75 yards at the top of their game...but their average is like 45 yards....but that's counting returning the punt...How far do you think he can punt?

1 yard = .9144 meters....

I've seen him kick a goal from 70m in an AFL game before. So, yes, he can kick quite far. Probably the biggest kick in the AFL along with his brother and the now NFL player Ben Graham.

By the way, I've moved this to Aussie Sports.

Hmm....well Ben Graham is one of the NFL's best...but its not like he blasts the ball either

Well then again..punting in the NFL is not always about distance but about pinning it within a 20 yard area.....so maybe hes not trying hard

I hope he wins our Eagles punting job..it would be nice to have a real punter for once

Ben Graham is really good, consistent in putting the ball inside the 20, there is another Aussie punter for the Cowboys I think

Good luck Sav! I wish him all the best, met him a few times and he's such a great guy, to be honest if Ben Graham is doing well then i can't see Sav not doing just as good.

Nice! Cuz our punter is awful! God awful!

Punting is a huge part of the game.....they are often regarded as crap by the rest of the team..but any good playoff team knows....they are key in pinning opponents back....

You cannot expect to win SuperBowls when your punter can't boom it into the other half when you are pinned into your side and can't get a first down....and similarily, when you are in the middle of the field and can't get an accurate punt down within the 20, and let the other offense start near midfield...it's almost a very effective boost to the defense

I hope he wins the job.
