A museum named Mane Garrincha, the People's Joy was opened in Maracana stadium on Wednesday.

"It's a tribute that does justice to Garrincha, one of our legendary players and provides an opportunity for people to get to know this great star," said Romario at the opening ceremony.

The museum features many objects and photos, including the Garrincha's shirt from the 1962 WC, where his perfect play substantially helped Brazil claim its second world championship.

The legend first featured in an exhibition in the museum was Valdir Pereira "Didi." Didi was on the WC teams of 1958 and 1962. In a 1950 he scored the first goal in Maracana Stadium for Brazil.

The new museum over 3 floors of a 6 floors building at the Maracana Stadium, was built for 4.6 million dollars. A Walk of Fame next to the museum was opened last year and has the footprints of many Brazilian football legends.
