Norwegian "Charity Shield"

Why "Charity Shield"....well in England they have this tradition where the league winner meets the cup winner from the last season, the weekend before the new season starts. The last few seasons in Norway we have gotten the same tradition, although the match is not played at a neutral ground, is not called Charity Shield, and is usually not shown on TV..well, until this year.

Today at 17:45 (match starts at 18:00), TV3 will send the match Viking vs Rosenborg to kickstart the Norwegian season, and I can't wait! :excited:

They will start with these teams:

Viking (4-4-2): Bo Andersen - Bjørn Dahl, Toni Kuivasto, Hannu Tihinen, Thomas Pereira - Tom Sanne, Brede Hangeland, Erik Fuglestad, Kristian Sørli - Erik Nevland, Bjørn Berland.

Rosenborg (4-3-3): Arni Arason - Christer Basma, Tor Trondsen, Erik Hoftun, Ståle Stensaas - Roar Strand, Bent Skammelsrud, Ørjan Berg - Odd Inge Olsen, Azar Karadas, Harald Brattbakk.

The match was decent, not quite up to normal league standards, but better than a normal training match. TV3 did a good job, and it would be cool if they sent more matches in the future.

In the end Rosenborg won the match easily 2-0, and on both goals Viking messed up. The first goal came at a cross in front of the goal, Roar Strand came running in, and jumped up in front of the keeper who was painfully at the wrong place, and it was 1-0. The second goal was scored in the second half after a battle in the box which Viking defender Toni Kuivasto lost, only to see the Rosenborg striker Harald Brattbakk, put the ball on a weak shot behind a poor Bo Andersen, 2-0.

At least some things never change. :)
I must say, Viking has been a great disappointment in the preseason. They really don't seem to manage at all without Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim. A shame really. One less contender this season, seems Molde are the only ones who might be able to challenge Rosenborg.

Then again, Stabæk totally dismantled Molde this weekend. The pictures I saw from the match were so onesided, that it seemed like an attack vs. defence practise. NRK still managed to predict Brann in 8th place though.

PS: VIF was 6th :D

Well, Stabæk are way too unstable and got a lousy attack to last a whole season. Molde got heaps of great players. And Siggthorson will probably become the topscorer this season. I think Molde will get the silver.

And if VIF ends above Brann, I'll watch NRK a whole saturday evening.
