In a time where the future of the game is uncertain, where several top-flight clubs are on the werge of bankrupcy, we have seen Florentino Pérez discard the possible transfers of Shevchenko, Crespo, Vieira, Nesta and Lucio. These are great players that undoubtedly would strenghten the team, but they are too expensive, and unlike Zidane, they don`t have the kind of name that would justify spending 50 million euro on one of them. Remember that Zidane was able to repay the amount invested in him.

There are cheaper alternatives, but they lack the kind of quality the club are looking for. New arrivals should have abilities that are superior to those of the homegrown madrileños (like Carlos, Makelele, Figo or Zidane). Did you think the club gave many opportunities to the youngsters last season? Well, you aint seen nothin' yet! :)

Now, the club are considering to keep away from the mercato. At least when it comes to bringing new players in to the Bernabéu. Currently, Del Bosque has 33 players to his disposal for the preseason, and somebody has to go. Valdano plans to cut down the number of players and has transfer-listed Geremi, Flavio, Savio, Munitis, Celades and Iván Campo. The problem is to find a club that are willing to, or capable of, paying the wages of those pricey Madrid fallouts.

The return of some of the loaned-out players could also cause a problem. Baljic was kicked out of Rayo Vallecano and has along with Edwin Congo not been with the first team since last summer. It seems impossible to get rid of them now

The club are also looking for an exit for Tote and Dorado, but it seems less difficult to find interested clubs for them. The case of Fernando and Julio Álvarez is special. Both, especially the first, have finished excellent seasons in Valladolid and Santander. One of them will remain in the club, although it is uncertain which one.

Finally, Cambiasso and Julio César have returned to the club to strenghten the midfield and defense. Del Bosque decided to promote Miñambres, Raúl Bravo and Portillo to the first team. Borja, Rubén and Valdo will also be a part of the preseason.

This leaves us with this squad (transfer listed players in parenthesis):

Goalkeepers: Casillas, César, Carlos

Defence: Salgado, Miñambres, Roberto Carlos, Raúl Bravo, Hierro, Helguera, Pavón, Julio César (Geremi, Dorado, Campo)

Midfield: Figo, Zidane, Guti, McManaman, Solari, Makelele, Cambiasso, Fernando/Álvarez (Flavio, Celades, Savio, Baljic)

Attack: Raúl, Morientes, Portillo (Munitis, Tote, Congo)

Id love to see Minambres, Bravo, Portillo, Alvares, Congo and Cambiasso finally getting a real chance. This is a sign, that the RM football-schools are very well and youngsters have a bigger chance than ever advancing into the first team. Del B. is doing great so. This is pushing new talents to try even more and is building a great future. This is just good for a club having a healthy youth-system. Its still better to have own kids than adopted ones! ;)

3 years ago I read a lot about Alvarez in Don Balon, while I was in Spain and saw him doing well at Santander occasionally. Two years ago I watched Portillo in the C-team at Ciudad Deportiva scoring 2 goals in a game. Nice to see them going through.

There was a report on german TV regarding 100 years RM. Very well prepared, when I think how biassed against RM german TV normally is. It was a mix of nowadays, history and future. And with the last part they went with Alberto Lora (15). Hes from Mostoles and playing in the youth VERY talented hope.

I've always wanted to post here, but never found the courage to. This is only my second post in these forums, and my English is not that great, so please bear with me. :)

el niño, after reading your posts I assume that you watch Real Madrid B regularly? I'd just like to ask your opinion on Luis Garcia? I watched a number of Real Madrid B games and I'm most impressed by him. I hear a lot of people comparing Portillo to Raul but Luis Garcia, I think, is more comparable, because he likes to go deep in midfield, has a great touch of the ball, likes to create chances for his strike partner and is also a good striker of the dead ball. I watched this game of Real Madrid B once wherein he did one of Raul's classic chip over the goalkeeper goal and I was hooked. ;) Of course the goal is not as clean and great looking as Raul's, but still... :)

So when I saw that he wasn't even in the bench of their CL game against Panathanaikos (the game where they said the B team shined), I was really surprised. I'm also really mystified as to why he never gets called up to the first team, compared to Portillo.

And I agree with you all regarding the quality of the young players coming from Real. I'm really excited to see all these young players get an extended run, and all the dead weight like Celades and Flavio getting sold. :greed:

Che: I'm half Spanish half Singaporean, 20 years old and I live in Singapore. Hence my deep sadness for Spain's controversial exit in the World Cup. :depress: I'm a huge Real Madrid fan and everytime I go to Spain to visit my grandparents in Madrid I try to watch the games but I can't because its so hard to get tickets! :depress: So I'm stuck watching on TV and supporting them through there. :)

How did I find Xtratime? Its an interesting story, actually. :D I was in Madrid and again I didn't get tickets (it was for the Barcelona game in the Bernabeu) and I met this Real Madrid fan who also didn't get tickets and is as sad as me. We got into a conversation and somehow our discussion went to some analysis of Real games and then I asked him how did he know so much of the game. He told me he didn't know much of the game, he was just repeating some of the arguments in this Real Madrid message board he found on the net. I asked for the url, and voila, here I am. :) I came here and got really hooked, especially when I did a search and read everyone's detailed match reports and analysis of the game. I've been an addict to this site for a long time, its a great place to read match reports because back in Singapore I don't get much coverage of the games. :depress: Anyway, this is getting long, so I'll post again later. :)

I agree. But the reason why Portillo is compared to Raúl is not the style of play, obviously, but his goal scoring record. He doesn`t really seem spectacular when he plays, but he is extraodrinary when it comes to scoring goals. He is a rare player. Luis García, I think, is more a typical Real Madrid product, packed with flair but lacks a little something to really make it, kinda like Guti perhaps? I don`t know really, lately LG has scored some important goals while Portillo disappeared from the matches, and you never know what will happen to young players. You decide to sell them one season, and then you`ll be begging them to come back the next

BTW, it is great to see Soldado making his mark on the B-team. Seems as though we can replace the promoted players quite well. Corrales takes the left back while Soldado partner LG up front. Only concern is the right-back, who will replace Miñambres

Thanks for the input, el niño. I think LG is quite talented, I hope he doesn't end up in a 2nd division team or something. :depress:

I agree that there doesn't seem to be replacement for Minambres. He always plays all the games and when he does gets substituted, its not by a specialist right-back. No wonder he seemed tired and lethargic in some of the later games.

Isn't Corrales the first team left back for Real Madrid B?

Sakura,

At first, Raúl Bravo played as the left back, but then he got the chance to play for the first team. Then Corrales took his position. When Bravo returned, Corrales continued to play as a left back while Raúl Bravo played as a left winger. Just like in the U21 team, with Del Horno (Athletic) and Raúl Bravo on the left.

We don`t really have a left winger on Real Madrid B, although Ernesto can play both sides.

Hm, still haven`t seen him. I can`t find the time to follow cadetes (I assume he play for Cadete B?), would you care to fill in on him? Always intersting to hear about the talented boys of Madrid.

Thanks in advance :)

Cool!!! Half Spanish half Singaporean! Man, you must get the girls checking you out! Actually, my wife is Fillipino, so we're pretty excited how our children will look one day. Eurasians always come out so amazing looking. Anyhow, welcome to the Real Madrid forum!

Have you guys ever thought Sakura might be a sister herself?;)

On the day that I welcome myself back after nearly a month away from the board, I wanna welcome you as well, Sakura.:) What's all the sh!t about your english? It seems perfectly fine to me.:)

Do you guys really think we can afford not signing a player?I don't know guys, seems to me a striker or a defender would really add some quality to our side. All the big name defenders seem to be getting away from us:depress: , but I'd love for us to go for Raf Marquez again.I think he was brilliant in the World Cup, and he has got the air of a leader.Hierro was class in the World Cup, but has he got it in him to perform like that for one whole season when he'll have to play 2 games a week, week in, week out?I'm not too sure.He should be in the starting lineup ofcourse, but I think we should get a good defender alongside him, a consistent one.

Metzelder has also been linked to us.I always like German defenders.

And it seems we are going to play the 4-4-2 diamond formation this season. That means only one defensive midfielder. That makes a good central defender crucial for us.But I just feel Perez and Del Bosque aregonna go with Spain's World Cup central defence partnership, i.e Hierro and Helguera. They did well at the WC< but again, I have my doubts about their consistency in one whole season.Anyway, if that is the partnership we'll go with, we are gonna atleast need our wingbacks to be more conservative, and Makelele to be absolutely out of this world.

Wow, thanks for the welcome, everybody. :)

As for sisters, nope, don't have any. Sorry to disappoint. :D I only have brothers, and irritating brothers, by the way. What is it with men thinking that the only reason girls watch football is because of the good looking players? I mean, one of my favorite players in Real is Hierro, and surely its not the looks that make me watch him.

Back to the topic, does this mean that we won't even consider signing a central defender? I wonder what happened to all those Nesta and Lucio rumors. With Portillo getting promoted to the first team and adding to the striker depth surely there's no need for more strikers.

Do you think the reason why Helguera was always picked first as Central Defender before Karanka and Campo, everytime either Pavon and Hierro can't play, is to train him to replace Hierro in the future? If Real really won't buy a central defender then next season its going to be Hierro and Helguera playing together in the central defense, with Pavon coming in every now and then. That's too bad, I kinda like Helguera as a midfielder. :depress:

See, I was rite abt Sakura being a girl.:D:D

And the rest of the gang, i dunno. Dont see Lestat on MSN, Micke's around but not posting, labas is busy with a website I think, and hala...I dunno, he seems to be gone forever.:depress:

Helguera is sensational at his best as a midfielder, but it seems there is no place for him unless we play two defensive midfielders. He definitely seems to be seen by the mgmt as the successor to Hierro. But I'm not sure he can be so great as a central defender.

What's going on in our team ???? :depress:

All other team are rebuilding their squad and we still hear rumors about our future signing and we still did not sell the unwanted players ???
Just forget about Ronaldo and Ronaldinho , I think Perez wants to make our team like Hollywood
In case he wants Ronaldinho why to waste the money on him , use it to bring Juaquen .
And if they put Heulguera as a cental defender who will help Makalele in the midfield????
Stop going after Big names

Watch out for Atlatic Madrid & Barca next season
