I dont really care about these lists but when guys like Alba, Alves and David Luiz are listed...

First two average club seasons (lost out to Atl Madrid or Real in the titles, and all had poor world cups).

Shortlisted defenders
David Alaba (Austria / FC Bayern München)
Jordi Alba (Spain / FC Barcelona)
Dani Alves (Brazil / FC Barcelona)
Jerome Boateng (Germany / FC Bayern München)
Daniel Carvajal (Spain / Real Madrid CF)
David Luiz (Brazil / Paris St-Germain FC)
Filipe Luis (Brazil / Chelsea FC)
Diego Godin (Uruguay / Atlético Madrid)
Mats Hummels (Germany / Borussia Dortmund)
Branislav Ivanovic (Serbia / Chelsea FC)
Vincent Kompany (Belgium / Manchester City FC)
Philipp Lahm (Germany / FC Bayern München)
Marcelo (Brazil / Real Madrid CF)
Javier Mascherano (Argentina / FC Barcelona)
Pepe (Portugal / Real Madrid CF)
Gerard Pique (Spain / FC Barcelona)
Sergio Ramos (Spain / Real Madrid CF)
Thiago Silva (Brazil / Paris St-Germain FC)

It is a pretty poor list but well Italian clubs also have the likes of Ranocchia, Mexes, Chiellini, and their likes playing regular football.

These lists have always been a joke, though it seems it's getting worse lately. Only criteria seems to be whether a guy play for one of the biggest name teams or not.

Um most defenders, including Chiellini, in the Serie A are absolute mediocrity. I think that list is a bit laughable though with Pique... who has been invisible after Puyol retired. Barcelona would be better off selling Pique for some huge laughable sum of money to Man United or some other Premier League team.

But... I think even Luiz is better than the majority of Serie A defenders... lol. And Barzagli hardly ever plays... always injured.

Lets take a few of the defenders from that list though... Hummels, Boateng, Varane, Silva... does the Serie A have any defenders on par with these guys? No ****ing way. Not even close. The last time the Serie A did was a few years ago with Nesta.
