That's strange, considering that he missed the Man U-Arsenal game last night to watch these 3 fringe players in action, Spud, Jaime and Matt. Didn't the lads impressed him enough?
I didn't really think Mills should be selected ahead of Carragher. Though Carragher is not useful forward, he does what he does best, which is to defend. Looking at the team, it seems that the right-back slot looks void, if Mills does not play well. Granted that Brown can play there, but Carragher has played there all season long with great distinction, while Brown had an indifferent season, and he was selected ahead of Carragher.
Spud misses out primarily because he is a hardworking player in the mould of Batty, while not able to provide much upfront. I feel sorry to see both of them miss out.
BOSH: JC also says in an interview on the official LFC site, that playing for Liverpool is more important to him than playing for his country, so he didn't want to risk not being fit for the start of the new season by going to the WC and possibly breaking down in training when he could be having the op on his knee.
