Hello Basque friends,
i'm a big supporter of Sociedad's player NIHAT. I heard anything about a possible transfer at the end of the season. So i have found an interview on Sociedads Homepage. The problem is I can't understand spanish or basque. Could someone be so kind and can translate me the interview, please?? thanks in advance.

Hi, Leftfoot76. Welcome to the forum. I´ve got no much time, so I´ll to summarize it a bit. He says that he received an offer to get his contract renewed ( it expires in June 06 ), he made an offer back and that they´ll talk again next June. He understands Erreala´s current finantial difficulties and that he could be transfered next summer. However he thinks that the most important thing now is to get some good results and stop this bad strike that begun with the loss at Bernabeu against R.Madrid.

Chelsea, Newcastle alerted as Sociedad agree Nihat sale

tribalfootball.com - February 12, 2005

Real Sociedad's board have agreed to cash in on Turkish ace Nihat Kaveci in the summer.

The striker's current deal has less than 18 months to run and Real will begin circulating his name across Europe over the coming months.

Cash-strapped Real are seeking at least £7 million for Nihat, who has been outstanding in San Sebastian over the past two years.

Chelsea have contacted Real about Nihat's availability this season, while he is also a favorite of Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness.

Sociedad to cash in on Nihat

by Mark Kendall - created on 10 Feb 2005

Real Sociedad are ready to sell Turkish star Nihat Kahveci in the summer to ease their financial problems.

Nihat is under contract until June 2006 and the club have already attempted to agree a new deal with him.

However, the 25-year-old forward rejected the offer and both parties have now agreed to shelve further talks until the end of the season.

"Real made me an offer, but I made them a counter-offer which I thought was reasonable, I don't know if it was high or not for the club," Nihat recently stated.

"I don't know if that's what they said, but I made it and now we have agreed not to talk about it until the end of the season.

"In the summer will be when I speak to the club and it could be that the economic situation has improved a lot and we might be able to reach an agreement for me to renew my contract.

"Equally it could be that the situation is as bad as it is now, and they try to sell me."

It now appears that Sociedad's financial predicament is so bad they will have no option but to sell him in order to try and ease their debts.

President Jose Luis Astiazaran has described the situation as 'critical', and it has been reported that Sociedad have already opened talks with clubs and agents in a bid to get the best deal possible for Nihat.

Almost inevitably Chelsea have been mooted as one possibility, while Manchester United were watching the Turk two seasons ago and are likely to have followed his progress.

Sociedad are expected to demand around €10-12 million for the forward, but will be forced to pay 30 percent of any transfer fee to his former club Besiktas.

Nihat has been in excellent form for the Basque outfit this term and has 12 goals to his name despite playing in a struggling side.

Russians in Nihat raid

by Lucas Brown - created on 12 Feb 2005

CSKA Moscow are on the verge of signing Turkish international Nihat Kahveci from Real Sociedad, according to reports in Russia.

Nihat has already turned down the offer a new contract at Sociedad and it is believed the club would sell for the right price to ease their increasing financial problems.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United were rumoured to be interested in the free-scoring striker, but it now seems as though the Russian side are closing in on his signature.

Sociedad are eager to get a deal agreed now for a sale in the summer, so as to ensure they have some revenue coming in at the end of the season.

An fee of around €12 million is thought to have been agreed and it is now down to the player to negotiate personal details, according to Moscow-based Sports-Express.

Strange situation now. We´ve had a debate all week about Nihat, sell him now, in June or him a new contract and this injury may change all. On the football side of the matter, it´s a big blow for Erreala, specially now that the team is showing an improvement and he was in good form and scoring goals again. Th doctors say that he could be out for about 6 months. :(

Of course it's bad for Real Sociedad... I've heard he's scored 45% of the goals of the team this season. He is their key player without doubt.

Damn, what a bad luck with injuries for Erreala this season. And his natural substitute (Oskitz) is loaned in Eibar..

Nihat was successfully operated on Friday and will be out for 6 moths. People here are talking too much about him, some say that he has already been bought by Abramovich ( for Chelsea or CSKA ), others that chances of staying next season have increased now. I don´t have really a clue!! He´s really hard mentally, he´s behaving as a real gentleman with everybody, the doctor says that when he saw the seriousness of the injury, Nihat saw the doc´s face expression and it was the player who had to console him!!
Bring back ChunSoo Lee!!
I´m afraid that you will have him soon among you... there are reports that 3 Korean teams are interested in bringing him back and Erreala would be more than happy of getting some of the money invested in him.
