Flamengo, who needed at least a 4 x 0 win to draw level with Santos after the first round of the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil, were beaten again, this time 4 x 2, by a fiery Santos side. Dodô scored a hat-trick in the second half for the Paulista team, with a corner from Robert taking a deflection off of Maurinho and supplying the fourth. Petkovic and Mozart discounted for Fla, but after Maurinho and Petkovic were sent off the game was over for the Carioca team. Santos go on to face Cruzeiro in the semi-finals.
In the other game disputed for the Copa do Brasil today, Santos managed a 2 x 1 defeat over Palmeiras despite having Belletti sent off. França and Raí scored for Sampa, Alex managed a consolation for Palmeiras, who need at least a 1 x 0 win in the second leg to take the game to penalties.
