Ancelotti confirmed he is not interested in the Italian NT and he is looking for a job in a club. We will have to wait for the new chairman of FIGC and hopefully he won't be an idiot who chooses another idiot.
Both US and Italy out...I'd laugh if not for Buffon.
Did only Tavecchio & Ventura resign, or did the rest of the dinosaurs in FIGC resign too? If they did, then at least the future will be bright and some good will have come from this.
Not that it's unlikely. In spite of the failures at Sampdoria and Milan he is the kind of coach who always gets opportunity and it would hardly be a surprise if he was chosen for lack of alternatives. Can he be worse than Ventura? No. Impossible. No one can. That said, I would prefer a huge improvement to Ventura.

Well, Ancelotti doesn't seem interested (& seems to be in semi-retirement mode). Allegri, Spalletti, Sarri, EDF obviously won't leave their club posts. Gasperini might. Maybe S. Inzaghi will.
From the rest, Montella is my pick b/c he did very well at Fiorentina for 2 yrs & did well last yr at Milan. Managed to somehow make that poor midfield look solid. Couldn't carry that onto start of this season (& wasn't given a chance beyond that), but he didn't fail. Milan is at where they should be. Only terrific coaching could've changed that. Their mercato was very overrated. He failed at Samp too, so not ideal & not a guarantee, but better than Mancini, Ranieri (good at leagues, not cups), etc.
Best thing of course will be if Conte leaves Chelsea and accepts a second Euro challenge (also unlikely).
Why commit for four years and there are no good options? What's wrong with an older manager? Montella should manage a club; he has plenty left to learn.
You guys are too entranced in the current Ranieri hype.
A hype well-deserved because of winning the league with Leicester, and he was always a decent league coach, but his cups record remains unimpressive. That record includes a poor job with another NT, Greece.
It's not about the Leicester run. He's been a respectable manager for a long time ago knows the strengths of Italian football, ie. Won't play 4-3-3 against Spain. He's also in the right age bracket for the NT.
I like Montella but he should continue training in the league. This group of players has no hope of winning a cup regardless. Better build for 2026 and get young managers ready for then in the hope we have a better team.
I continue to think an internal solution - probably Evani - should be sought until the summer and, depending on how things have gone between March and then, either he is confirmed for the 2018-2022 term (it is essential to appoint a coach for 4 years to avoid the risk of taking someone mediocre before the 2022 WC preliminaries begin) or a club coach is taken, when the options should be better.
Because it is better to have a strategy for the NT so that it can develop and reach its peak at the next WC, particularly when you are coming from a spectacular flop and the team needs to be, if not re-founded, given an identity in terms of its philosophy and playing style.
