Prolific striker Vincenzo Montella has followed coach Fabio Capello in pledging his long-term future to Roma.

The Italian international agreed to extend his contract until June 30 2006, a day after Capello agreed a deal until the end of June 2005.

Nicknamed 'The Aeroplane' for his goal celebrations, 27-year-old Montella has earned a regular place in the Roma team in recent months and is expected to play a role at the World Cup for the Azzurri.

Last month, his two goals earned Italy a 2-1 win against Italy, while he struck four in the derby against Lazio on March 10.

Montella joined Roma in summer 1999, and had two years left on his contract before reaching the agreement.
