Montella set to extend Thursday 24 January, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma’s Vincenzo Montella has admitted he is close to agreeing terms with Roma for an improved contract. Meanwhile, Argentine goalkeeper Christian Cejas has joined Siena on loan.

The former Sampdoria striker – whose contract expires in 2003 – is set to remain at the Olimpico despite not being guaranteed first team football under boss Fabio Capello.

The latter used Montella sparingly last season and it is unclear whether the Italian international will cement his place in the side for the remainder of the season.

Montella has been out of action for the last three months but faces stiff opposition for a first team shirt from Gabriel Batistuta, Francesco Totti and Marco Delvecchio.

Nevertheless, the Olimpico is set to remain as his home. "All I can say at the moment is that after a bit of give and take we are very close to agreeing a new deal," he commented.

As for Cejas, who arrived this summer from Newells’ Old Boys, he joins Serie B club Siena until the end of the season. He’s failed to get a look in ahead of Francesco Antonioli and Ivan Pelizzoli.
