Mondo shadow cast over Zoff Monday 18 April, 2005
Emiliano Mondonico is being linked with a shock return to boss Fiorentina if the Viola lose at Messina on Wednesday.
Mondonico was sacked and replaced by Sergio Buso after a disastrous start to the campaign, but could be recalled if current boss Dino Zoff doesn’t last the week.
Zoff was heavily criticised by fans today as the squad went into training camp ahead of the midweek round of Serie A.
The veteran was brought in to save the Tuscan outfit from the drop, but just nine points from 11 games has seen them slip back into the relegation zone.
They lost again at the weekend, 2-0 at local rivals Livorno, which has simply fuelled reports of another possible coaching change.
Whispers at the Artemio Franchi suggest that another reverse will cost Zoff his job and Mondonico, a massive Viola fan, is reportedly ready to return.
Fiorentina, whose squad held crisis talks with director general Fabrizio Lucchesi today, will spend the next two days at the Coverciano training base before moving on to Montecatini on Thursday ahead of the Bologna clash.
I hope he returns!
