French champions Monaco have signed Spanish forward Diego Quintero from Argentinean side Gymnasio y Tiro de Salta. He has netted ten goals for the Second Division side this season.

According to website lequipe.fr, Quintero has been snapped up for an undisclosed amount by the principality club. They’ll be hoping that he can emulate the feats of two past players who were also imported in from the Argentine league: Delio “El Goleador” Onnis at the end of the 70s and David “Trezegol” Trezeguet, who has just moved to the Italian giants, Juventus.

With this move, Monaco continue with their ploy of buying in from the South American leagues. Quintero will join former River Plate genius Marcello Gallardo, Mexican Rafael Marquez and Chilean Pablo Contreras.

Quintero, 22, will most likely sit on the bench as Monaco already have Marco Simone and record-signing Shabani Nonda. The French champions are also in the hunt for George Weah.
