Seems Silvio is busy paying UEFA rather than buying players.

The Rossoneri missed out on a place in Europe’s premier club competition after they only finished fifth in Serie A, following a hugely disappointing campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who have been the dominant side in the competition over the past six years, winning two editions, and reaching a final, semi-final and quarter-final, were gearing themselves to play in the UEFA Cup in 2008/09.

However the Diavoli could now be on the verge of being granted a sensational back-door entry back into the Champions League. Bulgarian champions CSKA Sofia could be expelled from the competition due to financial problems,

CSKA have been denied a license to play in the Bulgarian league, and the Bulgarian FA (BFU) has now demanded that they be expelled from Europe too.

The normal procedure is that the BFU send the runner-up Levski Sofia to the CL instead, however it is reported that instead of this, the highest UEFA ranked team not already in the competition will be the replacement, and this is Milan.

The Rossoneri would enter at the second preliminary round, and it would mean that Italy would have five teams in the Champions League, the others being Inter, Roma, Juventus and Fiorentina.

The Romanian side risk being thrown out of the Champions League for allegedly fixing a game in their own domestic league.

Steaua have already been penalised by the Romanian authorities and their president George Becali has been accused of match fixing. He is alledged to have paid another Romanian side $2.6 million in order to help his side to win the league.

If this is the case then, just like Porto, they would be instantly kicked out under UEFA’s zero tolerance policy regarding such matters.

Their place would then be offered to Rapid Bucarest. However, there are reports that Rapid do not want to play in the Champions League, and neither are Dinamo, who finished fourth. In this case, Milan would be given the place as UEFA’s highest ranked team not already participating in the competition.

UEFA would have no choice but to award the place to the Rossoneri if Rapid snub their chance, a fact that will delight Milan fans worldwide, after it looked like the Italian giants had thrown away their Champions League prospects for next season.

The Rossoneri failed to qualify for the competition after finishing fifth in Serie A, following a less than vintage campiagn by their high standards.

The club now has the chance to jump straightback into the driving seat as they look to use UEFA's rule book to wriggle their way back into the European big time.

My opinion?

Something is going on. UEFA probably want Milan in the Champions League for their benefit, while Milan obviously too want to play in the CL. Solution? Pay off the small teams.

I seriously can't find any sane reason why would Rapid REJECT playing in the CL. :googly:

PLUS!! If the place MUST go to a team in their league. Seems UEFA are bending the rules here?

I also want to know the difference between Milan being convicted in a match-fixing scandal and Porto being convicted in a match-fixing scandal. One team was allowed to retain it's spot in the competition while the other was expelled.

Also, Mo... Milan were caught match fixing, while Porto have been disciplined for "attempting to fix 3 games" in 2003/04.

Stop trusting goal.com, the second placed team in Bulgaria have already received official invitations from UEFA to play in the CL.

Huh? What about the fifth, sixth, seventh, etc placed team in Romania? Surely they can't all refuse? This makes no sense whatsoever.

It should be offered to the romanian team who are the top ranked team to accept.

Otherwise, Milan is representing Romania.

This is a disgrace.

Milan were found guilty of doing corrupt stuff a couple of years aog... but were never chucked out.Total double standards.

UEFA always has been Anti English (which has been proven with the new 6+5 rule...pushed forward as soon as 2 english teams reach the final) and Anti-Small teams... proven now.

Avantine secession is needed.

No you're wrong. Not even Juve was caught match fixing. They too were caught "attempting to fix". Milan had something to do with the linesman.

It would be scandalous if Milan gets in. You need to deserve the CL on the pitch. Hey, Rosenborg finished only 5th, shit happens and fans and club directors need to accept the other team was better for once. If a certain team is denied a license, give the entry ticket to another team from the same country rather than inviting big clubs who missed out on the CL. If Italy gets 5 clubs it'd be a total farce.
