This Argentinian striker from River Plate has been linked to Milan quite a few times. Can someone (perhapes Fangio?) please tell me what kind of player is he? How old and how talented is he? Thanks :)

I guess you mean Maxi Lopez (Maximiliano Lopez)

He is a very good striker, skillful according to his size, clever outside and inside the box, young and huge! But I prefer him as an assistant striker, he plays better outside the box.

he has the physicall conditions to be the big man in he box, and with capacity to dribble, play as pivot, also playing outside the box...but in order to be a striker in the sense of top scorer, he must make goals in regular basis...and so far he hasn't, anyway who knows, may be a foot in Italy and he start making goals every minute, so far he is very inconsistent, but the conditions to change this, he has them. I don't like him as asupport striker as Pooh, is a waste for his size, and yons of little dworfs are far more skill than him, he has a great capacity to play outside the box, but he is perfect to be the main man in attack, just that he struggles too much to stay focus...

Pooh must hurt having that avatar, hey can you take an advice from me? even if I'm precisly the opposite example? let Barca fans think Samuel is shit, do not began a crusade, same for Ray, and Faisal, you really need someone to tell you he is a great player? he was? and will be? after all when did Samuel had a bad time?..mmm never, so is time to face it, sadly in the most pro, otioned club of the world in their worse time, but hey to put a carreer in doubt like Samuel already had, a bomb wasn't good enough, it was required an atomic one, btw, he in the last games is improving, but hell that kick to the air of the prvious match against Numancia?, that was not the usuall him, so is normall to be attack when he was going to be the saviour.
Let him speak by himself in the pitch, if he fails, well it was meant to be, and hopefully he can have his revenge in the WC, btw, as many attacks from Samuel come from the comparisson with another player, not susally in a debate form, only trashing, just don't commite the same mistake, I made them ons with Walter and Roman, Aimar, Saviola, I like them, but many things are there fault, many others no, but trying to have a discussion, a debate when is not space for that, is useñess, anyway you can be enjoying tha, so I don' know, just an opinion, hope you don't get it in the wrong way...
let's keep faith in Jose, and may be we will smile at the end...

Thank you for your infos on Maxi Lopez, guys! :) Do you think if Maxi Lopez joins Milan, will he pair up well with Shevchenko?

and btw I still think Samuel is World Class despite of his poor form in Madrid, and I dun mind having him in Milan's defence! Imagine: Stam--Nesta--Samuel--Maldini !!! :eekani:

To think that Lopez is a better fit as a support striker is madness! He does not have the skill needed with the ball at his feet to be such. He's size and strength give him the upper hand when trying to create space for himself which is often the case. He's great playing with his back against the goal and very skilled in the air (again, given his size), it is why he has the attributes of a #9 written all over him. On top of that, he has a very good mi-range shot and his accuracy improves every week.

Downsides, like Fangio said, he's a bit inconsistent. ALso, (as a pure 9) he needs the aid of a playmaker or an unselfish support striker to get him going. He usually finds himself in trouble when he tries to do too much with the ball and forget he has 10 other teamates to help him out.

All in all he should become one of the best at his possition worldwide.

yeap, you said it with more conviction, anyway if both Tevez and Maxi do not get their act together, we may lost the possibilty of finally having a great attack, with the adition of Saviolin, Cave (he will be back!!, lo viste con los borrachos del tablon!! se parece a Cordone!!!) and cia, but both Maxi and Carlitos (that used to be Pekerman's atatcking duo in one Youth NT) have everything needed in the technical and strength aspects....sadly many are filling their heads with too much anticipate glory...and their fault is to believe it...

I thought he should be a 9, but after watching him against Boca when Cavenaghi scored the winning goal for River and the way he was dribbling Schiavi and other defenders with Boca, I thought he should be a support stirker, because this kid done wonders in that game with ball in his feet.

Dribbling past Schiavi is not a hard thing to do. He's as stiff as a cock on viagra. To out jump him and win a header is another thing.

Well at that match, it was not only about dribbling schiavi, the kid has shown a great control on the ball, I know it is a common thing in Brazil, Argentina and other SA countries where skills is just everything the players have, but accordingly to his size and age, he just did great in everything in that match, especially running, dribbling and shooting, even though he did not score, but he was the most dangerous River player, but yeah, he maybe outclassed himself in that single match. I have high hopes for him.
