Metsu in talks with top UAE club

DUBAI, July 9 (Reuters) - Senegal coach Bruno Metsu, who steered the African country to the World Cup quarter-finals, is considering an offer from al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates, the club's chairman said on Tuesday.
'Most of the work has been done, but nothing has been finalised yet,' al-Ain chairman Mohammed Khalfan Mattar al-Rumaithi told reporters in Abu Dhabi.

'Metsu is still under contract with the Senegal national team and according to FIFA rules he must first settle his affairs with the Africans before taking over any fresh assignment,' he said.

'He (Metsu) is due in the UAE shortly and once he is here we will finalise details of the contract.'

Hamad bin Nikhairat al-Amry, a member of al-Ain executive committee, held talks with the Frenchman during a recent visit to Paris.

None in here is from UAE, but I guess it would be a great signing for the Emirates club.

Al Ain also want to sign Ivan Zamorano after failing to get Youri Djorkaeff.

The Emarati league will be filled with old foreign stars.

Metsu to coach top UAE club

DUBAI, July 14 - Senegal coach Bruno Metsu, who steered the African country to the World Cup quarter-finals, has signed a 10-month contract to coach al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates.
'The contract was signed on Saturday night,' a senior club official said on Sunday.

'He (Metsu) has been cleared by the Senegal football authorities to coach al-Ain,' Khalfan al-Rumaithi said.

The club official refused to disclose financial details but said the Frenchman would take charge from July 25.

'He will speak to the press when he returns,' al-Rumaithi added.

Metsu, known as the 'White Magician' in some quarters for the way he has overseen a transformation in Senegal's soccer fortunes, replaces Bosnian Jamal Hadji at al-Ain.

Breaking News: Senegal Sack Want-Away Metsu
News Archive

07/16/2002. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) decided to let their French coach Bruno Metsu go after he asked permission to leave his job for ten months to take up the lucrative challenge of a coaching role in Dubai.

"There is no such thing as a ten month absence in football", FSF chairman Malick Sy told the press on Tuesday night. Metsu will be replaced by his two assistants, Abdou Sarr and Jules Bocand? until a new coach is named.

Senegal's next match is against Lesotho in 45 days when the African Nations Cup qualifiers get under way.
