Corinthians add another top young player to there ranks:

River Make Unprecedented Transactions
1/19/2005 9:39:00 PM
The money just keeps rolling in at River Plate. They have just made the most unprecedented series of transactions in Argentine football history.
River Plate has just earned in one clean swoop US$21 million (close to US$40 million before taxes, deductions, and debts) for the rights to three of their top players of 2004. Maxi Lopez, the player who became one of the biggest weapons for the Millonarios after the departure of Fernando Cavenaghi, is headed to Benfica effective immediately. The youngster was bought by the perennial Portuguese Super League powers at a cost of US$ 5 million.

Meanwhile, Lucho Gonzalez and Javier Mascherano will part ways and head to Europe and Brazil respectively. Although they will make one final run at winning the Copa Libertadores for La Banda, they are scheduled to leave in June.

Gonzalez, one of the newest stalwarts on the Argentine national team is headed to Portugal as well, but to become the latest reinforcement of defending Champions League winner FC Porto. This transaction could produce huge dividends for the Portuguese in the upcoming defense of their title. Part of his pass was also owned by Huracan who will come out of this smiling really big.

Mascherano, on the other hand, will join his good friend Carlos Tevez at Corinthians as a part of the super team that Iranian businessman and MSI head, Kia Joorabchian is building.

It looks all suspect.

very suspect! what does Corinthians gain by signing all these players? How lucrative is this new World Clup Cup championship?? how lucrative is the Liberatores(sp?) that they go out and sign all these players for these amounds of money? ok they will probably keep these players for a few years and sell them for more than they paid for but what other incentives do they get out of this?

also how are these portuguese teams signing all these top south american talents? didnt Luis Fabiano have a higher bid from Juventus but it was turned down and he ended up at Porto?

This is good, I'm glad Juventus won't be getting this player. Another piece of crap just like Tevez.

A fishy one. Sneakily, this might have sth to do with a certain Russion oil tycoon staying in who likes to hang out in London for his wekkly football dosage.

Well, it's good for South American Football that he will continue to play his Football over there, but in my opinion, it's a shame he isn't coming to Europe. I think he's a very good player with a lot of potential.

In my opinion, he's one of the best young midfielders in the world. It would have been nice to see him playing over here, but the same thing can be said about Carlos Tevez.
