GUSTAVO MASCARDI, one of world football's top agents, has revealed that Parma are rivalling Manchester United in the battle for Roberto Ayala's signature.

The Valencia defender has recently admitted that he has a good chance of heading for Old Trafford in the summer, after a protracted transfer chase by Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, there are other teams in the frame - including Serie A side Parma, who are looking for a replacement for Juventus-bond Fabio Cannavaro.

"Ayala is one of the players who has more requests from European teams," Mascardi revealed.

"He has three or four important offers, at this moment, and we will speak with the people from Valencia.

"When we have a concrete offer, we will speak, but there is nothing concrete in terms of numbers, but he is one who is wanted in England and Italy.

"The Italian team is Parma."

Again, the signs are that Juan Sebastian Veron will remain with Manchester United after all, although more talks are planned after the World Cup.

"We had a chat with Seba before the Champions League and he said that he was comfortable there," added Mascardi.

"We will speak after the World Cup because he has the support of his coach.

"It is a subject to resolve after the World Cup."

As for Hernan Crespo, the subject of speculation regarding a major swap with Andrei Shevchenko, or a big-money move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, Cragnotti was unable to offer a great insight.

"I can neither confirm nor deny the information," he stated.

"Crespo makes us feel proud because he is being followed in a quiet market, and Lazio must sell players due to an economic problem.

"It will be good business for those who sell him, and those who buy him."

A big fat  for this. Obviously I'd be delighted if it was true. But again it's too damn obvious. He wants United to pay more so he claims that Parma are interested because we sell Cannavaro and need a replacement.

No way you will get Ayala.
Manchester will get him after all.
Thanks for telling us the obvious... ;)
