Maniero is in Parma plans Saturday 11 May, 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pippo Maniero could be plying his trade at the Stadio Tardini next season as Parma appear close to a deal.
The striker, who this year set a new club record with 18 Serie A goals, is certain to leave Venezia after a continuing row with owner Maurizio Zamparini.
Maniero should reunite with former Venezia boss Cesare Prandelli in Parma. Fired just one month into the season, the squad assembled by the Coach was relegated back into Serie B.
There are several clubs lining up to take the ex-Milan man away from the Laguna, including Bologna and Premiership sides.
If Parma succeed in snatching the striker then it is increasingly likely that Hakan Sukur and Marco Di Vaio will be sold off this summer.
Meanwhile, Venezia are going through many changes following their slip back into the second division.
Zamparini had bowed to pressure from the fans and next week should sign over 90% of his shares in the club to local businessman Gavioli.
Only then will the transfer strategy be decided. Federico Magallanes is another of their more sought-after players, but despite offers from Spain the club seems intent on keeping the Uruguayan international.
Assistant manager Beppe Iachini outlined his plans for next season. “I am thinking of a team that can battle. We need motivated players who will roll up their sleeves to give these fans a rapid return to the top flight.”
