Manchester United wants to sign Portuguese winger Luis Figo from Barcelona, while Man Utd is also chasing Chelsea's French defender Marcel Desailly.

United were put off by Barcelona's 40 million-pound ($62 million) price tag for Figo. United was negotiating to bring the price down.

United manager Alex Ferguson had made contact. Desailly said eight major European clubs had shown an interest and he was waiting to see Chelsea's reaction.

I would think that Chelsea would be very reluctant to sell, what is probably thier bestest player to the manks, but money talks.....however Martin Edwards wallet genrally dosen't

Figo wouldn't go to man united. Plus were would Beckham play, don't say in the middle. Beckham only has one quality and thats his crosses. He can't cross from the middle. Man U would have to swap Beckham, Giggs, Scholes plus money for Figo. And I would still keep Figo if that offered.

Manchester United representitives have travelled to Morocco where Desailly currently is with the French squad, to talk to him about a possible transfer to Old Trafford.
Chelsea are saying they won't sell Desailly because Man Utd did not want to sell Schmeichel to them 12 months ago.
Real Madrdi, Marseille, and Lazio are also after Desailly's signature.
