Man City stars face 30% wage-cut
tribalfootball.com - April 21, 2004

Manchester City's high earners face dramatic wage-cuts if they fail to beat the drop this season.
The players had an agreement activated in all their contracts when the club was promoted that their wages would be cut by a third if they were relegated.

City have discussed an emergency contingency plan for going down which involves offloading all the top earners.

Good. It will help our financial situation if that happens. Most of the main earners will have gone anyway if we go down. Also there are plans for investors if we do go down, which shall ease some of the debt also. Fortunately a large amount of it is owed to the Chairman, and as a city fan he won't recall it in a hurry. He could do a Jack Hayward and write the debt off.

Still we should have brought back Bernstein when he offered to return. He is the best business manager the club has had probably ever. He managed to re-structure our finances and save us from Division 2, and negotiate a move to Eastlands. If we went down, Bernstein could sort it out.
