Haifa's youth team is again taking part in the Copa Carnevale in Viareggio, Italy which is one of the top youth tournaments in the world. Features 40 youth teams including all the big names from Italy plus teams from all over the world. Last year Juventus won the tournament and Maccabi Haifa made it to the 1/8 finals. Always interesting to follow after this tournament. Maccabi Haifa have quite some talented players, as always, I suppose the most familiar names would be Eden Ben Basat and Lior Refaelov, the next big striker to come out of Haifa according to people who watched him. Unfortunately he's now injured following that brutal match against the Namibians on Thursday...

BTW the brutal match was against Zambians and not Namibians.
Strange, I was sure they said Namibians in Yedioth. :D

well good thing they won at least.

And now Maccabi Haifa have advanced to the 1/4 final after defeating Werder Bremen 2-0. Goals by Ben-Basat and Buzaglo in the first half. Haifa play today in the 1/4 final against Italian club Cittadella. Other 1/4 matches are Juventus-Salernitana, Inter Milan-Newcastle and Torino-Genoa. In short all the teams remaining are Italian except for Newcastle and Maccabi Haifa.
