Lyon is poised to sign Chelsea's World Cup-winning defender Frank Leboeuf for about 4
million pounds ($6.4 million).
Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas attended Chelsea's 3-2 defeat at Manchester United on Monday. Aulas said he was in England to buy a player, although he wouldn't identify whom.
Lyon is second in the French First Division standings on 52 points, 10 behind champion Monaco, and Aulas wants to strengthen
the squad before next season with the club set to win a place in the Champions League.
Leboeuf, who helped France to victory in the 1998 World Cup final, joined Chelsea from Strasbourg for 2.5 million pounds in
June 1996. He's made 170 appearances for the London club, scoring 24 goals.
His place in the starting line-up this season has been under threat due to inconsistent performance and the signing of
Brazilian defender Emerson Thome from Sheffield Wednesday in December.
