Di Biagio was an excellent midfielder for Roma, Inter and Italy, he has relative successful experience in international soccer and probably knows more about up and coming Italian talent than anyone at a time when the squad has been hit by several retirements and is in need of significant rejuvination.

It makes perfect sense to me and hopefully some of Roma's talented young stars will get a chance for once; it is about time Italy's midfield was built around Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The 2017 edition is in the big thread about our youth NTs.

Di Biagio was owned tactically more than once (by the Czechs in 2017 in particular) and can't make proper choices in terms of players. He keeps giving starting spots to the veterans no matter whether there are players who prove to be better in the meanwhile, the way it happened with the mediocre Bianchetti chosen over Romagnoli.

Claudio Gentile, former under 21 NT coach, like Di Biagio: "Di Biagio doesn't deserve to be the commissario tecnico of the Italian NT because he failed with the under 21 NT, after telling us it was the best under 21 NT of the last 20 years".
The previous failure, the one of 2015, was worse in my opinion, because the opponents were weaker and Di Biagio made worse mistakes, but Gentile is obviously right.
