Hi guys,

Hope it ain't too wordy :)

There are plenty of underlying reasons for our exit, not as obvious as our dire need for some Viagra up front. We're tired. Simple as. One may think that this is too simple to explain sth as complicated and frustrating as creating 20+ chances a game, winning 10+ corners a game and having 50%+ possesion every game, but as often in life, there are always simple answers to questions. We tend to forget that one thing always leads to another, in our passionate desire to vent our disappointment.

Up to the 2nd leg at Anfield, we have played 49 games. 49. That's 11 more than the full EPL fixture, a figure that would include a Carling AND FA Cup winning run, plus 1 replay match. However, we still have about a third of the league to play, and 3 more FA Cup games (if we go through to the final) and we lost out on the Carling Cup in the first hurdle. On top of that, we went through to the UEFA Champions League knock-outs thru ALL the qualifying rounds, and that's 12 games in total. 12 games. If we were to qualify for the UCL automatically via 2nd place, that amount of games would've seen us DUE to play in the final. Not enough, we won the UEFA Super Cup, and got through to the final of the World Club Cup in Japan.

Now that's something to chew on eh? A good 'ol splash of water to freshen up our prespective on the season as a whole. Had we not have needed to qualify for the UCL from the very first qualifying round against T.N.S (many might've even forgotten we played them this season. Apology accepted) we would have 6 games to spare, which might've seen us either winning the CARLING CUP, the WORLD CLUB CUP or even be less than 17 points closer to Chelsea, maybe even being at least 6 points ahead of Man Utd, with 1 game more than them. Or even ALL of the above.

And maybe even getting past Benfica two nights ago.

3-4 months back we were all happy abt the fact that our midfielders & defenders are helping to shoulder the burden of scoring, while at least our forwards are MISSING chances (better than having none in the first place) and helped creating them for our midfielders to score.

When the whole team is tired (how many times have we seen Gerrard, Carra, Hyypia, Reina, Riise, Finnan & Alonso NOT PLAY this season?), it affects the mind. There's only so much the mind and the heart can do without the body, and when you are down to your bare bones, you'd want the ball to come a little faster, the pass a little better, the shot a little harder, the header a little stronger and the opponents a little slower. If only.

I'd say, despite this huge disapointment, there are still many to play for. The FA Cup, and of course, the 2nd place. A blessing in disguise could be that we can match Man Utd in the run-in to 2nd place, sth which would not be possible had we got pass Benfica (we are still not guaranteed to keep our trophy even) because there will be too many games to play. How many teams can say that, after going through a huge disapointment like losing your crown at home? NONE.

At this point, our season is already a resounding improvement compared to last season. Istanbul can't be beaten, yes, but how many of you had, at this same point last season, even DREAMED that we would go to the final, let alone winning it? And we all agree that every season would be better than the last, and we have done so. Cutting the gap between Chelsea, Man Utd & Arsenal, playing better as a team, performing better as a club...many more.

We are Liverpool FC. We soar high, and we run the horizon down. We might not make the finish line, and falling on our face right before it, but that doesn't mean we will stop running. And soaring. Why? Phil Thompson could'nt have put it any simpler. Because we're LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB.

Onwards, and upwards.

Salam Sejahtera... :)

Agree with you most of it..

but i think if we play more..like we did in 2000 - 2001...we can achieve something...we did the unique treble that time..playing like...68 matches?

but maybe this time it's too much..

liverpool simply the best......
preety sure to say that lot of improvements in our squad..compare to last season...away games always seems bad last season...improved ready...but the thing is..goal scorer....liverpool still dun have a proven goal scorer... pure goal scorer..we still searching for the nice goal scorer...the one who can simply tap in for goals...cisse..moro fowler and crouch not suits well...its our midfield who always find the goal that we needed....

so far for this season...well done boys...
