Liverani believes in Lazio project Friday 5 April, 2002

Fabio Liverani has maintained that he is convinced that Lazio’s future plans will see them become a force in Italian football once more.

The former Perugia player has had a difficult first term in the capital as the side have struggled to find any sort of consistency at all.

But despite the setbacks he’s confident that things will improve and wants to help turn the club’s fortunes around. "I continue to believe in the Lazio project and hope to be part of it next season," he said.

"This has been a negative season. We thought that we had come out of our crisis in December when results had improved but then we lost at Verona and drew at home with Bologna.

"From that moment all our problems really started. That was when fear and anxiousness took over the team.

"We also struggled physically. There were some games where our legs just wouldn’t permit us to play at such a high tempo as was necessary."

The Biancocelesti, despite big money summer arrivals such as Stefano Fiore and Gaizka Mendieta, have only one objective remaining this season as Liverani explained.

"All we are left with for this term is to qualify for the UEFA Cup," he regrettably admitted.
