SPORTING CP 0-0 Rio Ave

************

The end of the transfer window last week brought quite a few changes in our squad and two of the newcomers were called for the first time. Sebastián Coates and Hernán Barcos will probably both sit on the bench but it's clear with this call that itshouldn't take long before we see them making their debut.

Rio Ave is always a tough opponent and the pressure is all on us (plus we have our good old friend Xistra whistling away on this one). All set for another thriller with a packed stadium full of fans that never give up believing. :proud:

First goal chance for us at 12' with Bryan Ruiz alone with the keeper but Cassio saved.

Great chance for Sporting but Adrien's shot was saved for a corner. From this corner another good chance with Teo's header being once again saved by the keeper.

Right before the break Rio Ave gets their second goal chance so far but once again Rui Patrício made a great save.

As expected Rio Ave is being a tough opponent but we have created enough chances to be ahead. It's true that Rio Ave had two great chances, both more or less offered by some sluggish passing in our transitions, but Sporting had a good handfull of those that always faced an inspired Cássio.

João Mário was brilliant, Adrien doing well too but Bryan Ruiz is below his usual self. Not a bad debut so far for Coates who looks imperial in the air.

We need to finish off a couple of those chances if we want to get back to the top of the table.

Paulo Oliveira goes off with a pulled muscle. Shit.

Rubén Semedo comes in for his place.

Meanwhile Rio Ave had a howler of a miss by Kayembe after another offer by our defence.

Great work by Bryan Ruiz but Gelson finished above the crossbar.
