Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 2

Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, 24.08.2013, 21:15 CET
Ref: Artur Soares Dias (AF Porto)

vs

Académica vs SPORTING CP

After the dreamlike start of season of last weekend we are playing tomorrow our first away game. We'll be facing a good team that is always hard to play against. Bar any external shenanigans coming from the man with the whistle, I expect us to win this one and keep the good momentum.

Here's the list of players called by Leonardo Jardim:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício, Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders: Maurício, Jefferson, Marcos Rojo, Eric Dier, Cédric.

Midfielders: André Martins, Gérson Magrão, Diego Capel, William Carvalho, Carrillo, Rinaudo, Adrien, Filipe Chaby.

Forwards: Wilson Eduardo, Salim Cissé, Slimani, Fredy Montero.

Special note for the first call of the Algerian striker Islam Slimani and the return from injury of Eric Dier and Adrien.

Great chance again for us but Jefferson's cross was too strong for Montero's run.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

ROJOOOOOOOO 2-0

Académica fails to take the ball out of the box after a Sporting corner and Rojo bangs it in. Deserved two goal lead.

Great first half from Sporting leaving very little chances for our opponents to play their fast counter attack game. Very good pressing on the ball and fast transitions using both flanks left Académica's full backs in panic and gave us several dangerous situations upfront. Carrillo was particularly active not only thanks to his fantastic goal but also due to his capacity to beat his marker with ease. Montero was also very well, always showing great technique on the ball, reminding me somehow of a mix between Liedson and Matías Fernández.

Hopefully we will not sleep on this lead and keep pressing until the score is safe.

At 52' penalty for Sporting. Great combination between Carrillo and Jefferson and the Brazilian LB is in serious pain inside the box. Académica's CB is sent off with a 2nd yellow.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

ADRIEN 3-0

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

MONTEROOOOOOOOOO 4-0

From the spot Fredy scores his 4th in the league after one of Académica's defenders cut a cross with his stretched arm.

Total domination!

Académica misses a sitter now after Adrien lost a ball in a dangerous position. It was their first goal chance at minute...60.

Capel wastes a great chance making a pass too strong for Montero but one minute later almost scores.

Académica hits the post from a corner. Our defense still looks poor in the air at times.

Sporting didn't take the foot off the pedal in the second half and served the same dish to Académica finishing with a second goleada in a row and keeping the lead in the table.

Apart from the very good game of the three players from our frontline that I've mentioned at half time, it's impossible not to mention the great game by our midfield trio with a special note to William Carvalho and Adrien. Complete domination of the most important area of the field guaranteeing our superiority during the whole 90'.

Thousands of sportinguistas watched this one in Coimbra showing how much we all believe in the work done so far by the team. This is the real Sporting! :proud:
