First game of the post-Sá Pinto era with Oceano as interim manager and it had to be the toughest of the whole season, away against the current champions. If we get anything from this one it will be a bonus.

Starting XI:

Rui Patrício

Cédric - Boulahrouz - Rojo - Insúa

Elias - Schaars

Carrillo - Izmailov - Pranjic

Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Maicon is injured and Mangala will replace him on Porto's central defence at 17'.

Danilo saved Porto with a flying tackle snatching the ball from Izmailov when he was going one on one with Helton.

We played quite well in these first 45' and the only thing that made the difference on the score was a moment of sheer brilliance by Porto's Colombian striker. Obviously that Porto attacked more and create a couple of goal chances but overall we defended very well and our midfield managed to cancel the usual flow of our opponent's attack. We showed a much more balanced midfield than under Sá Pinto which to be honest wasn't that hard to do.

Oceano must have had one or two trainings with the team so this is really a game for the players to show what they can do for the club and, just like they already showed this season, they are proving to have enough quality and professionalism. The problem is that we do miss a couple of quality players in a couple of positions and that is right now making the difference.

One final note on the unnecessary rain of yellow cards coming from the usual suspect Jorge Sousa. He is just itching to send someone off and I am sure of the shirt colour he would prefer to send early to the shower.

The usual soft penalty favouring Porto on a clássico at Dragão came at 55'

Cédric touches the ball with his arm when getting up from the floor without getting any advantage whatsoever from it and Jorge Sousa calls for a penalty.

Lucho blasts the penalty against the post.

Fantastic counter led by Carrillo but nobody was there to finish off Izmailov's last pass.

Ricky just shoots in the atmosphere after a great cross from Pranjic. What a waste.

At 72' happened what I was expecting even before the game started. Marcos Rojo sees the second yellow on his second foul and is sent off. :rollani:

At 84' Jorge Sousa is not happy yet so he invents a second penalty against us seeing a foul of Boulahrouz on Jackson that the many tv replays show being obviously a wrong call. James did not miss from the spot and Porto wins à Porto.

The second half ended up being quite similar to the first with Porto never managing to impose their game and Sporting controlling the midfield.

Obviously that Porto all in all created more chances and deserved to win but they always have to make sure they do with with a little help from their friends. Jorge "Super Dragão" Sousa never fails when needed. In a perfectly well tempered and not that hot match, he delivered us no less than ten (!) yellow cards, one red and two fake penalties. Even for his standards it surely must be a record.

Let's see what manager our Board will bring during this 3 weeks' break in the League. This is a good enough squad to do a better season than the last one and once again tonight they defended the jersey with pride. I hope that the insults heard today before the game by our president when he visited one of Sporting's supporter clubs at Porto will be translated in the ballot boxes next time we have elections.
