After a (too) long break, we are back in action in the league to host Gil Vicente and try to reach our 9th consecutive win, something almost unthinkable after the first 3 or 4 rounds of this competition. They are a side that showed some very promising football against our two big rivals but they were robbed by some very dodgy refereeing in both matches.

Sporting is now playing some of the best football I've seen us playing for a very long time, probably back to the days of Peseiro, and that is the most important for me right now. It is obvious that we are not far from the top and that gives an extra incentive to these players but the most important is that we keep focused on each and every game and that's what we've been doing since that fantastic turnaround at Paços.

Domingos called the following players:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício and Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders: João Pereira, Daniel Carriço, Anderson Polga,
Oguchi Onyewu, Evaldo and Emiliano Insúa.

Midfielders: Fito Rinaudo, Stijn Schaars, André Santos, Diego Capel,
Bruno Pereirinha, Elias and Matías Fernández.

Forwards: Valeri Bojinov, Diego Rubio, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and André Carrillo.

Rodriguez, Jeffrén and Izmailov are still injured.

There is a lot of expectation on whether Matías will be able to keep his place on the starting XI after his superb game on Thursday against Vaslui. I hope he does.

FORÇA SPORTING!!! :fero:

We all know that today, Gil Vicente will be paid in full. Wonder if the ref will feel awkward over wearing a Gil jersey for 90 minutes.

We've been playing so good that not even inventing red cards to leave us playing with 10 men for 70 minutes at Guimarães is enough to beat us.

Of course that we still need to improve on the diving skills in and just outside the box but a few tapes of Aimar, Saviola & Co should do the trick.

João Pereira almost scored from a fantastic lob and Matías goes on playing too good to be true.

SPORTING 1-0 Gil Vicente at HT

We've started strong trying to score early and we have managed that from a set piece, which is one of the many aspects of our game that improved dramatically since Domingos took over the team. From then on we have been controlling the game, created a few goal chances but with a bit more head an less guts we could be cruising with a much more comfortable lead. Matías is once again having a very good game and his connection with João Pereira and Elias has been great to see. Capel on the left is destroying their poor RB but the overall crossing from both flanks needs some tuning.

Gil Vicente has been doing OK but we haven't allowed them time nor space to create anything.

I hope we start the second half with the same attitude that we showed at the start of the game to solve this one quickly.

Ricky stole the ball from two defenders very close to Gil's box and one of them pushed him from behind already inside it. The Iceman did not forgive.

Great attacking move with Matías opening to J Pereira on the right and this time the cross was perfect for the supersonic header of Diego Capel. Festival!

Another great counter attack with Carrillo, who just came in for Matías one minute earlier, leading the way into the boz and Capel heading in from close range from the rebound.
