After having dispatched the fascists of Legia and advanced to the Last 16 of the Europa League, Sporting is back in league action to play again in Alvalade against Rio Ave.

Sá Pinto keeps his positive speech but what the team has been showing on the pitch differs very little from the very uninspiring stuff showed in the last stretch of Domingos spell with us. Polga and João Pereira are still a disaster defending, the defense/attack transitions are still too slow, some players in our attacking midfield are constantly played out of their best positions and van Wolfswinkel continues showing to be in bad form and none of his possible substitutes seems to deserve the trust of the new manager.

Injuries have been ravaging our squad which obviously also doesn't help. Onyewu (2 months) and Rinaudo (one more week) are still out and apparently Rui Patrício also got a knock on Thursday's game thus was not called. The good news are that Izmailov and Carrillo recovered from their minor injuries. The Russian is available for tomorrow but the Peruvian is suspended.

I'll miss this one, and I will also miss the next game at Setúbal one week later, as I'm flying tomorrow to France where I'll be working in the next 10 days. I'll pop in here whenever I can though.

List of players called:

Goalkeepers: Tiago and Marcelo Boeck;

Defenders: João Pereira, Xandão, Anderson Polga, Daniel Carriço, Evaldo and Emiliano Insúa;

Midfielders: Stijn Schaars, André Santos, André Martins, Bruno Pereirinha, Elias, Marat Izmailov, Diego Capel and Matías Fernández;

Forwards: Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Seba Ribas.

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy, had to get a tune up for my Lamborghini Gallardo but thankfully my maid recorded the game for me which I just finished watching

SCP played its best game under Sa Pinto, made alot of chances to score but still the scoring touch is lacking and it took a brilliant strike from Izmailov to secure victory. Marceo Boeck did a good job in goal, and his goal kicks were well taken as well often going far away to SCP attackers and starting new attacks. Capel looked better then he has been lately, Carrico did a solid job at DM and Elias and Schaars had solid matches as well .

new CB Xandrao also did pretty well I thought

We still need to be doing better hopefully the team can continue to grow and hopefully finds more of a scoring touch soon.
