Looserkusen

Just think of what their defence did against us and how they performed today...

Well not many defence could stop Zizou's thunderbolt(though they could have closed him down a bit sooner).

But lets not trash the hapless Germans. They played well to go the finals and gave a good account of themselves.Just that their "luck" deserted them in the final minutes.;)

Oh come on now, as much as it pains me to admit it, they did deserve to be there. We weren't good enough. I don't begrudge them their place in the final at all, and if the truth be told, I was rather hoping they'd win it in the end:)

Oh My God!

I was just thinking of putting this as a thread: "Looserkusen"!

AND i was just abot to type it in when i saw your topic! :D a bit of a coincidence ey? ;)

Well, its so true, theya re losers in everyway. They were the favourites to win the Treble this season and the came out with sh*t-all!

Dissapointing... Atleast we could have taken it away from Real BUT Looserkusen was shocking....

But its our own fault! :(

Vedz, if Man U played Real Madrid in the final, they would have got thumped.

Leverkusen deserved to be there and in teh end, they had more chances than real.

Lerverkusen played and bet teams such as Depor, Man U, juve, Liverpool....i think they desereved to be there.

And at least they had the chance for the treble which is more than you can for Man U.

give credit when its due!

In the end Real had the luck they had against us, so I think it's just fair. And until the 80th minute Leverkusen couldn't create real pressure and Real controlled the game.
Reals first goal was just embarrassing for a team that wants to win a final and Zidane's shot wasn't unstopable too. But Leverkusen gave Real other chances too, presenting them the ball almost in the area after big mistakes. So Real could have won 3-1 or 4-1 easily.

No credits to Leverkusen. They should never have gone that far after almost crashing in both group-phases.

Cant agree;)

I think that Bayer gave a good game. From the moment they were a goal down, they did put madrid under preassure.

Zidan's goal was hardly "defendable".

They lost, but they went down fighting.

Oh gawd...here you all go again with "Leverkusen were lucky." Fergie would be proud of you.

They weren't lucky, they were BETTER! If anyone was lucky it was Man U, with a fluke goal and a penalty when they never looked like scoring!

You people really are beyond help....but here is a bit of therapy for you...

Repeat out loud 7 times....

"Leverkusen beat Manchester United because they were the better team."

If you made it to the 7th repetition without choking, congratulations! Welcome to the REAL WORLD!

Yeah, I'm sure you never thought how could they possibly get to the final with Arsenal missing out after humilating them big time at Highbury.
And of course it happens every game to clear just off the line 4 times.

I am sorry but I have to side the majority here. Leverkusen might have lost the match but earned plenty of respect.

Lucky? They just lost to the most expensive lineup on the planet, surpassing some other big clubs on their way there, producing great attacking football with players that most of you probably hardly ever heard of (Vranjes, Brdaric, Neuville...), and if anyone was unlucky - It's Bayer. They were clearly the better side last night and if it hadn't been for Zizou's magic goal, who knows what would have happened in the Second half. You mentioned their defeat to Arsenal, so what? Didn't you lose 5:0 and 6:3 in previous seasons and still won the league? Besides, Arsenal lost to Juventus' B team, and this is why they haven't qualified from their group, and for that, they have only themselves to blame for. :)

What exactly is lucky about clearing it off the line? (unless not allowing Man U to score is considered lucky per se!)

Real cleared off the line 3 times in the last minute last night (not that goalline clearances involve any luck whatsoever!)

As I said, yesterday Real had the luck Leverkusen had in the second leg of the semifinal.

And of course there's no luck involved. How could it. It's pure class to get the head, a foot or whatever just precisely enough into the line of the shot to keep the ball outside goal. You can't compare a defender sprinting back just in time to catch the ball with someone standing somewhere in the goal and being hit, though. So in the end it's luck.

I can't believe I'm dignifying what you say with a response....but here goes!

1) You've made no effort to explain how goalline clearances are lucky, you've just written a rather incoherent and rambling bit of sarcasm!

There is no luck involved in kicking or heading a ball off the line. None whatsoever. Fergie was just angry at not scoring.

2) You completely ignore the fact that, in reality, Man U were lucky to avoid a worse beating.

- A deflected goal (now THAT was lucky!)
- A penalty which was completely against the run of play
- They were dominated in midfield from start to finish

So how about explaining how on earth you can call Leverkusen lucky after Solskjaer's goal?

Viel Glueck!

P.S. Try the therapy I suggested.....say "Leverkusen won because they were better" 7 times - and if you can manage without choking on the words, consider yourself rehabilitated! :)

If man utd meets madrid in the final, then they will easily beat real maybe 1000-0, and if they loose, it's just unlucky. Infact everytime man utd lost to any team, the team that beat them (manutd) is just lucky.

Leverkusen is a very lucky team to be able to beat man utd and go to the final.
Arsenal is a very lucky team to be EPL Champion
Liverpool is a very lucky team to be able to beat man utd at their old trafford
West Ham is a very lucky team to be able to beat man utd in old trafford.

NO WONDER ..............

Barcelona 99 rings a bell? You were just about the luckiest team ever at that final, but as I said elsewhere, great teams create their own luck. Get real tgv, luck is part of football and nobody denies it, but a team can never go through 17 times and reach the final in the end just on the account of luck.

they wanted it more than we did in the semis. we are the better team, but they wanted it more than they did and in the end no other team in europe would have worked real work as hard, except for a couple of mistakes. with a bit of luck we'll lift the trophy at OT next may! we're going to have to get our spirit back though.

As I've already said, Leverkusen deserved to be there, and in other circumstances, they might have won it. As for luck,I don't believe in it, I think luck is a cop out. Luck describes an entirely different process than what it implies, that process being : preparation meeting opportunity. We won the 99 final because we were the better team. We took advantage of the opportunities that we created. If you want to call that luck, fine. But its not the way I see it.

Gooner.com, think about what you wrote first.

It is lucky to score because of a deflected shot, but it's not lucky if someone is hit and the team doesn't score because of that. Now that's what I call logic! As a next step please explain how you calculate the way the ball will fly within some fractions of a second and then race to the spot you have to be at to block the ball... no luck involved at all...

The one thing is to say there's nothing at all called "luck", like Fred did, but to reduce it on a specific situation...

And I didn't say they were lucky in both games, did I?
What about Leverkusen's equaliser at BayArena - completely against the run of play as well!

Ranaan, what's your point? Did I state something relating to luck and the final of '99? Guess not, so how do you think you know what I'd say about that game?
Anyway, I neither said that Leverkusen was lucky for 17 games or something like that. They didn't win the final - no luck left, in your opinion?
