It's official, Leonardo Jardim signed a contract with Sporting until June 2015 as coach of the club's first team. Augusto Inácio will be the general director for professioal football and Virgílio Lopes will be in charge of the youth football department.

Jardim is a 38 years old madeirense born in Venezuela. He started building his reputation with Beira-Mar where he won Segunda Liga and promotion to the first tier of our football. After that he joined Braga where he took the club to the Champions League but his relationship with the club's president was never too warm. In spite of the public interest of Porto on him, he then joined Greek champions Olympiakos where he had an excellent performance - one league, one cup and no defeats - something apparently not good enough to convince the club's president, so he was sacked.

Jardim is a confessed sportinguista and I do think he is the best possible choice amongst Portuguese coaches. His teams usually play some good football and he knows well our league and our players. On the other hand he probably doesn't have the needto feel that he has absolute control of everyhting, as it seems to be the case of Jesualdo, thus his departure.

Good luck to him!
