In one of threads we've talked about players from 90-91 Sampdoria team.Of course they are part of Sampdoria Legend...But any other?

Please write down players who are (and will be) remembered, who made great things for Sampdoria, who are club sign.I would like to know them very much.

For me such a player is of course Roberto Mancini :star: :strong:

Good article.

Let's see if Cerezo and Veron also share the destiny to win the Intercontinental Cup after returning home. It will be pretty difficult for Veron to defeat Barça though.
When I had seen Veron in Samp for the first time I said it is going to be world-class player and this I was right :) ... I liked his style, the way he played and leaded the team. I am happy he won Copa Libertadores!
Moments when Great Sampdoria was born. I have to admit I have never seen video from this game. This is our first european final:

Our team in this game - all legends :proud::strong::
Pagliuca - Mannini (27 min. S. Pellegrini), Pari, L. Pellargini (k) (54 min. Bonomi), Salsano, Lanna, Victor, Cerezo, Dossena, Vialli, Mancini.

I love the idea to come to the pitch with Swiss flag as the final was placed in Bern. What strange shirts we had to wear in this game?

Next year we did better job in Sweden :D

That was the usual second shirt in the 80s, Escape to victory type. :D I used to love that shirt.
Today I was reading a thread on this forum about players who were underrated and didn't get what they deserved at international level.
Soon I thought to the formation of Sampdoria in the 80s -90s and one name came in my mind: Moreno Mannini. Thinking to him I realize the reason why the Italian NT in the Vicini/Sacchi era was one of the best in the world while now it is hardly in the European top10. Infact Moreno hardly played in the Italian NT (10 caps) but he could easily play in this one, being ten times better than one mediocre Zaccardo. Moreno Mannini was a wonderful right back, later in his carreer a center back, fast and powerful, splendid man marker. He spent 15 years at Sampdoria, practically all his carreer, since he joined us when he was 22 and left just for his home club Imolese in serie D (after a brief experience at Nottingham). 366 games with Sampdoria, second just to Mancini.

I remember Moreno's wonderful volley at home to lecce 3-0 at the season's end in that scudetto famous year:proud:.
What is Mannini (Moreno not Daniele of course;) ) doing right now?
We are wondering about Cassano future. What he will do when we qualify to Europe or we won't qualify?...What is interesting we can be the club he has played most games in SerieA. Right now he played for Samp 80 games in SerieA (scoring 26 goals). He had played 118 games for Roma (with 39 goals). If he plays till the end of the season (7 games) and stays at Samp for next season (with good health he can play more then 30 games) it will be more then in Rome. I won't mind if he stays for some more seasons and deserves for "Samp Legend" title :D
Absolutely agree:)
i think the last samp legend was sergio volpi who played 194 games.

palombo has made 231 apperances..
From this interview here (http://www.sampdorianews.net/?action=read&idnotizia=4573) Mannini says that he's no longer in football, but is concentrating on other things, mainly his family. He also said that Samp would probably be the only club that might make him return to football in some role (coach? scout? manager?), but has never received any offers.

Thanks a lot!
Definitely Mancini is god for me.

Others from modern times would be Flachi-Gol and Volpi. They got us back into Serie A!

From the 90s, there are many but Vierchowod and Mihailovic are legends for me. Im glad people have mentioned the little wardog known as Evani. He was a great no-nonsense English style player.

Lets not forget Popeye, ie Lombardo! one of the greatest strikers of our club. I actually met him in 2003, the dude is so nice in person as well!

Montella was our very own but too bad his injuries took the best of him.

Unfortunately unless Samp doesn't win something in Europe or be consistent at top, we wont have too many big stars staying with us for long periods.

People are comparing Cassano-PAzzini to the terrible twins Vialli-Mancini but I think its too early to that sort of comparison.

Yes, I agree. Pazzini has been with us for just one year and something, Cassano for three seasons... nothing if you consider that Mancini has been with us for 15 (!) seasons.
Mancini-Viali, Bazzani-Flachi awesome pairs:)

The latter were a great combo, especially the promotion year as well as the first year back in Serie A. Too bad Bazzani fizzed out.
HOW SAD!

Brescia striker Francesco Flachi has been banned for 12 years after testing positive for cocaine a second time.
Traces of cocaine were found in an anti-doping sample he gave in December.
The National Anti-Doping Tribunal came down hard on the 35-year-old as he has already been suspended for doping offences in the past.
Flachi was banned for two years in 2007 after he tested positive for cocaine at the end of Sampdoria’s match against Inter on January 28.
His new suspension will expire on January 12, 2022 effectively ending his career forthwith
Maybe they feared he could come back to play in 10 years... :drunk:

Best wishes for his extra-football life. Luckily there is not just football in life, he was not far from retirement and I strongly doubt that he had the qualities which are needed for a job inside football but out of the pitch anyway.
We with u, Francesco!
