Liverpool's search for a new left back is hotting up with Wolves defender Lee Naylor the latest name in the frame for a move to Anfield.

Although Wolves reacted coolly to reports suggesting that the Naylor is heading for Merseyside, Gerard Houllier is known to be seeking a signing for that position of his side, with Stig Inge Bjornebye on his way to Blackburn.

Houllier would ideally like a top class arrival, such as Middlesbrough's Christian Ziege, but manager Bryan Robson and chairman Steve Gibson have both re-iterated that the German international is simply not for sale.

Naylor will find himself to be a young man in demand, due to the obvious lack of quality in his position throughout the country, and he has shown up well when playing for the Under-21 side.

However, Wolves' new chief executive Jez Moxey is unaware of any deal being in the pipeline for Naylor.

"I'm not aware of any interest from Liverpool in any of our players and, as a player under contract, Naylor is not one we're looking to get rid of," he said. "But I don't know what might have been going on at the Liverpool end."
