After our disappointing departure from the Coppa, we can at least now concentrate on the Serie A. On Sunday Palermo comes to town and will surely give us a run for our money. Since the arrival of Papadopulo Lazio has a 100% record and will be looking to continue their good start of the second half of the season. Also Bazzani has since arrived and will give Lazio some more options in the attack, which considering Palermo's strong defense, may be very necessary.

Forza Lazio !!

I think it won't be a high scoring game and probably the team which breaks the deadlock will win.

Couto might return to the line-up for this one. Di Canio and Muzzi are out, so it will be probably be Rocchi and Bazzani as the strikers, or perhaps Pandev-Rocchi to start, with Bazzani coming in later. If Couto indeed returns, Giannichedda might take Dabo's position in the midfield. Or Siviglia could be fielded as the left-back instead of Manu Filippini, with Couto-Giannichedda as the central defence. I'd probably prefer this.

Peruzzi is doubtful, but Sereni can do the job just as well. All signs point to a tight game, so it will probably end 4-3. :)

I forgot that Talamonti is also about to return. I'm sure whoever is in the best physical condition will play in the defence...

Siviglia-Talamonti-Couto-Oddo seems the best choice for the defence, IMO. If Rocchi is too tired, Bazzani - Pandev might do the trick in attack.

Seems that being close to his girlfriend has helped Bazzani in regaining his form. :)

Apparently fatigue really hampered our players in the second half after playing 120 minutes on Thursday.

Too bad. :( But it was bound to happen at some point. The important thing is how the players will deal with it, if they will not let it affect them to the point where it influences their confidence. We might contribute this to the aftermath of our cup match, so it would be good to quickly forget about it and focus on the next match instead, not having to worry about the cup anymore.

-------------

Giuseppe Papadopulo's honeymoon period has come to an end with this shock home defeat to Palermo.

There were already signs of trouble at Lazio, as despite their 3-2 victory over Cagliari, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia on the away goals rule. Talismanic figure Paolo Di Canio was suffering from flu symptoms, joining Angelo Peruzzi, Roberto Muzzi and Luciano Zauri on the sidelines. Fabio Bazzani received his Serie A debut with the Biancocelesti shirt.

Palermo's away record has been poor this season, but their confidence was boosted by last week's stalemate with reigning Champions Milan. The two Filippini twins faced the Rosanero for the first time since their ill-tempered summer departure following a row with tactician Francesco Guidolin.

Eugenio Corini curled one of his trademark free kicks inches past the near post, while soon after Tommaso Rocchi ran on to a splendid Fabio Liverani through ball and his angled drive thumped the inside of the upright.

Lazio took the lead with their new signing Fabio Bazzani. The former Sampdoria star nodded a Liverani cross into the net with help from Matteo Guardalben's appallingly mis-timed intervention.

Palermo hit back with Cristian Zaccardo's header from another Corini free kick, while Franco Brienza failed to make the most of some good interplay between Luca Toni and Simone Barone.

Bazzani seems to have rediscovered his form just days after this move to the Capital, as he left a defender standing and placed his angled drive just wide.

Cesar ran down the left flank and left three defenders in his wake, but Antonio Filippini ruined the move by blasting over the bar.

Palermo tested Matteo Sereni with a Luca Toni strike, but were fortunate to take draw level just before half-time, as Toni rose to nod in a Corini free kick from eight yards.

The Sicilians were more confident in the second half and turned the game around completely on 66 minutes thanks to a spectacular turn and volley from Lamberto Zauli that slotted into the top corner.

Lazio couldn't create too many dangerous opportunities to get back level, as Bazzani and Rocchi were closed down, while Liverani's drive was deflected wide.

There was controversy on 87 minutes when Rocchi drilled a free kick into the net, but the goal was disallowed as the referee had not finished ordering the defensive wall into place.

Instead, Palermo ensured the points were safe with a classic counter-attack, as substitute Mario Alberto Santana ran down the right flank and cut back for the unmarked Toni.

Lazio: Sereni; Oddo, Siviglia, Talamonti, E Filippini; A Filippini, Giannichedda, Liverani, Cesar (Pandev 67); Bazzani, Rocchi

Palermo: Guardalben; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Grosso; Barone (Terlizzi 60), Corini, Morrone; Zauli, Brienza (Santana 70); Toni
