Serie A Week 13 - 28/11/04 (15.00)
Lazio - Cagliari

Stadio Olimpico

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lazio and Cagliari meet for the second time in a week after the Sardinians collected a 2-1 Coppa Italia victory at the weekend. The capital club will be confident that they can revenge that reverse given that Cagliari have struggled on their travels in Serie A this term.

Cagliari have collected just two points out of a possible 15 away from home so far but could collect their first win as Lazio haven’t impressed their own supporters this season. The Biancocelesti have won just twice in six games at the Olimpico so this game could really go either way.

Lazio go into the match having beat Bologna 2-1 in their last tie but that victory came at a price. Both Ousmane Dabo and Paolo Di Canio were dismissed and are subsequently suspended. Cagliari, who drew 3-3 in Week 12, will be without the banned Conti and Pisano.

Both sides go into the capital clash on similar form. Lazio have won twice, drawn twice and lost twice in their last six matches. Cagliari have won and lost one, while drawing the other four.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Oddo, Couto, Lopez, Seric; Manfredini, Liverani, E. Filippini, Cesar; Inzaghi, Rocchi

Cagliari (probable): Katergiannakis; Lopez, Maltagliati, Bega, Agostini; Abeijon, Brambilla; Esposito, Zola, Langella

There are also injury worries for Lazio, who will probably have to do without striker Tommaso Rocchi after he sprained his ankle in the 2-2 UEFA Cup draw with Partizan Belgrade.

Halftime, 1-1.. Terrible defensive error led to our goal, with Oddo being one of the guilty ones.

We were playing well until their goal but then they took control of the game..

What a humiliation. And why the hell did Caso sub Pandev? The only dangerous man we had up front.

2-3 Oddo makes up for his earlier mistake that led to the goal and scores from the penalty spot! There is still hope.

Here's the report:

Gianfranco Zola has given Cagliari their first away win of the season, though Lazio shot themselves in the foot with Angelo Peruzzi's dismissal.

These two teams meet for the second time in a week after the Sardinians earned a 2-1 Coppa Italia victory seven days ago. Cagliari's away form is a considerable drawback with two points out of a possible 15 coming into this game and had Nelson Abeijon banned, though they were boosted by news Lazio were without suspended Ousmane Dabo and Paolo Di Canio.

The deadlock was broken after just seven minutes, as Fernando Couto's header from a Cesar corner kick was only parried into the path of Goran Pandev.

Free kicks were always dangerous situations with fine saves on Massimo Oddo at one end and Antonio Langella at the other.

Cagliari didn't seem to threaten much, but they took full advantage of a defensive error to draw level with Langella springing the offside trap on Roma youth product Daniele Conti's pass.

Lazio pushed forward immediately after the restart and Pandev fell in the area, but his penalty appeals were waved away.

However, less than 30 seconds later Lequi nearly put Mauro Esposito's cross into his own net, calling on a decisive reaction save from Angelo Peruzzi.

Pandev nearly doubled his tally soon after when his strike from the edge of the box thumped the woodwork.

Lazio's disciplinary record this season has been woeful and when Esposito sprung the offside trap and ran alone on goal, Peruzzi rushed off his line and hacked him down outside the box. The red card was inevitable in Peruzzi's comeback from injury and Matteo Sereni replaced Roberto Muzzi.

Sereni's first test was a deflected Daniele Conti free kick, then Massimo Gobbi's effort was wide.

The comeback was completed soon after, as Langella sprinted past Oddo down the flank and pulled the ball back for Esposito's glancing strike from close range.

Lazio simply fell apart and Cagliari made it 3-1 when Langella ran down that same flank and cut back for Gianfranco Zola to thump his shot under the crossbar.

The ten-man Biancocelesti felt they could get back into the game when Simone Inzaghi fell under a shirt-tug from Maltagliati and Massimo Oddo converted to make it 2-3 with ten minutes left.

Lazio: Peruzzi; Oddo, Lequi, Couto, Lopez; Pandev (E Filippini 68), A Filippini, Liverani (De Sousa 70), Cesar; Inzaghi, Muzzi (Sereni 57)

Cagliari: Katergiannakis; Lopez, Bega, Maltagliati, Agostini; Conti (Del Nevo 83), Brambilla, Gobbi (Pisano 83); Esposito (Loria 89), Zola, Langella

Sent off: Peruzzi 57 (L)

I watched only the second half and our defence was a total joke, Oddo in particular looked totally lost, Lopez screwed up the offside trap leading to Peruzzi being sent off. In attack, mostly too many long balls towards Inzaghi who again sucked. At least we fought to the end but in the end we lost...:(
