Sorry buddy, but with fluid in your knee that's going to be a long time to recover. Don't push it, you could really wreck your knee further down the road.

By the way, this is my 666th post. Devilish!

Ahh sorry about that mate, sounds horrible...how exactly did you injure it that bad? PT may be your best option for recovery.

Yes PT stands for Physical Theropy, It may be your best option, that and extended periods of rest. Whatever you do don't force yourself into playing too quickly it could hurt you a lot more if you were to do that.

which ligament is injured? give all details about the injury...even the grade or class of injury if you know it. You can try to ride a bike perhaps, or do swimming/water running to keep fit. It may not cause pain and will help with rehabilitation.

I injured my left knee while playing soccer about 1 month ago(i think its the 9th of may) happened when some guy tripped me up while i as dribbling the ball, and in mid air i felt big pain (felt like someone kicked me on the left knee, but no one did, i think its properly the "popping" sound/feel people say with knee ligament injurys). I tried to get up afterwards but felt big pain in my left knee and couldn't even walk a slight bit, i had to be carried off, a few minutes later my knee was really swollen, i think its fluid which made it swollen and all puffed up(fluid in knee means damage inside the knee, i my right ?) then i went to the orthopedic section of the hospital and the doctor ask me what happened then examined my knee by trying to move it different ways and doing X-ray. thanksfully ? no bone damage, she also told me "it's just ligament damage" and wrapped my knee up with this elestic band then knee brace and gave me cructches. The doctor also gave me a report card thing to give to my family doctor(that i went to see first) saying i have, twisted my knee due to twising motion of the left knee. Well i was on crutches for 2 weeks after that i walked with a slight limp for about 2 more weeks. Now(approx 1 and a half month laer) i can walk pretty normally and can do extensions and flextions of my injured knee no problem. As i said before the only problem right now is the fluid, these few days i found out its slowly absrobing away. Also i found out from trying to kick a soccer ball which makes me think its not ACL injury, i fell a slight twitch/stretch of a tendon/muscle/ligament on the inside side of my left knee(also this is where most of the fluid builds up), Could it be MCL ? or ACL damage and + a slight pull of the MCL also ?

Yes ligament injurys are much worse than broken bones. I heard some stories from my friends say they knew people thats hurt their knee, one cracked his patella bone and he was in a cast for like 3 months, couldn't do anythings just lying down, also one had broken his tibia bone(i think could also be fiba bone, but i don't think fiba bone gets broken that much) and the bone grew on top of each other and he had to get like "nails" around his ankle and below the knee(some thing like that but iam not too sure) to stretch/pull the bone out and join normally. After few months both of them i think had nothing after its fully healed, they never have anything like instable/wobbley knee or anything else that happens after ligament injury. Also did you have fluid in your knee ? if so how long did it take for it to absorb).

Iam going to see a physio when the swollen is gone down a bit more, but some poeple say they feel excatly the same after going to physios + doing exercises there ? or is it just better off seeing an orphapedic specialist instead?

also doctors never mentioned anything about surgery to repair ligaments, they only said that if the fluid don't go away maybe open up and see whats wrong inside the knee and get some fluid out or inject something in. and whats actually worse ligament or cartilidge ? i read that cartilidige is much worse but a friend of mine damaged his knee cartilidge and was on crutches for 3 weeks and back to playing soccer like in another 3 weeks, maybe he didn't damage is knee that bad eh ?

If you did what I think you did (patella dislocation), you'll be out for 4-6 weeks. Don't start strenghtening until you have a full range of motion (I actually screwed my knee up and am just doing strengthening now after about 4 weeks out). To bring down the fluid if it's still there, ice it regularly, and drink lots of orange juice, or anything with vitamin C. Your quad will get really atrophied (sp?), so your physio should give you some exercises to do. Also, riding a bike is good for that muscle, so do it if you can, don't push anything. Also, satrt eating more protein to get you muscle mass back up. Drink milk instead of whatever you usually drink, eat more meat (red is the best) and fish. Anything animal derived has protein, so instead toast for breakfast, have eggs.

Now, if you damaged your ACL/MCL, I'm not sure what to say. A loud 'popping' sound is attributed to the tearing of one of those, but by the sounds of it, that's not what you did, you might've just damaged it a little. Go see see a specialist ASAP. This stupid doctor I saw the day of my injury said she wouldn't drain it because the fluid would come right back. Later that week I went to a specialist, she drained it then (hurt like a bitch by the way), and said if I had it drained a week ago, it could've saved me 1-2 weeks of recovery.

oh man thanks !

haha, stupit doctors !! my doctor only told me was a ligament injury didn't even say wot 1, also my fluid is slowly going away (YES FINALLY !!:):):) ) after like a month, also icing it really helps reducing the fluid after so many weeks ? and will it work if i use somekind of anti inflanttry cream i.e vlotran emugel ?
