Scolari Settles on Brazil's Starting Lineup for World Cup Opener
Brazil - Turkey | News Archive

Kleberson set to make his debut (Allsport)
05/23/2002. Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has named the 11 players who will take the field in the Selecao's World Cup opener against Turkey on June 3rd.

Among the 11 is the surprise inclusion of Kleberson. The 22-year old midfielder from Atletico-PR has impressed Scolari sufficiently in training to earn his World Cup debut. Corinthians midfielder Vampeta appears to be the player Kleberson supplanted.

Here is the full lineup (3-5-2):
Marcos (GK); Lucio, Edmílson and Roque Junior; Cafu, Emerson, Kleberson, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos; Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

Klebberson will start but I am so confident he'll perform up to his true ability and take care of our midfeild with Emerson. I've got to be positive and I really feel that Emerson will make the perfect captain compared to the other contenders like Roberto Carlos and Cafu.

I am dissapointed Big Phil has already put his squad up, that might give Turkey more stuff to work with and know more about how we'll play and leave no question marks for them which may come back to haunt us, but let's keep our confidence up & our morale.

That's very true, Ze da fiel. Turkey's only good players that I know of are Inter's Okan & Emre and also Hakan Sukur. The other one's I've got to admit i probably have never heard of. We're gonna be able to beat them with a 2-0 scoreline and it'll end 0-0 at halftime. I've got once again that special gut feeling on this one too.

I think Ronaldo will start out slow and clinch the game with the 2nd goal while Ronaldinho Gaucho will get the Selecao the wake up call and ring the bell for the Brazillian football & goals to start going in, baby! Penta numero 5 is coming home.

Its bad enough having emerson playing:mad:
If brasil are going to play a defensive game then i am not optimistic we will get very far.
Turkey are also good technically.
I think it will end up a draw against them.
Believe me turkey are going to play their hearts out.
I wont be suprised if brasil even lose this macth

Kleberson is excellent!

No offense, Ze, but have you ever actually seen Kleberson playing? This kid is GOOD! He defends as a defensive midfielder, and supports the forwards as an attacking mid! He has a knack for scoring goals - he shoots well with both feet - and also tackles very well. This is a top-class, modern player. I was actually PRAYING that Scolari would choose him over Gilberto and Vampeta. I mean, both of them are good, but the truth is, Kleberson is the most offensive option of them all.

Vampeta has ONE, and just ONE, advantage over Kleberson: His experience, as Kleberson is only 21 or 22. Other than that, IMO Kleberson is better in every aspect. :) I realize Vampeta holds a special place in your heart, Ze, and i respect that. But don't knock Kleberson just because of that. This kid is classy, and hopefully he'll defend our golden shirt for many years to come. ;)

International Preview: Malaysia v Brazil
Malaysia - Brazil | News Archive

Last dress rehearsal for Scolari and Brazil (AP)
05/24/2002. Brazil's final World Cup tune-up comes against a meager but enthusiastic Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. In a match that fans of the Selecao hope will not result in any last-minute injuries, Luiz Felipe Scolari should trot out the players who will take the field in their World Cup opener against Turkey for at least a half.

Fireworks are possible as Malaysia should not prevent any serious threat to knocking off the Brazilians. Scolari knows this is the last opportunity to observe how his players cope with his tactics and strategies. His biggest concern heading into June is whether or not the defense can rise to the occasion. Unfortunately, the defense likely will not be severely tested against Malaysia.

BRAZIL'S LINEUP:
Marcos (GK); Lucio, Edmílson, Roque Júnior; Cafu, Emerson, Kleberson, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos; Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

Garincha,
Yes i have seen Klebrson play a couple of times.....specially last year in the Brasileirao.

Vampeta is much better than him, and even FELIPAO (you like him, i don't) said : " Vampeta comes out more to the game, that is why i'll be putting Kleberson". If Felipao din't have an insecurity in Kleberson he would have not called Vampeta for the world cup, and you know that Garrincha.

Watch Fabricio from COrinthians play and you'll see a better player than Vampeta, Kleberson, G. Silva and Emerson all put together. If he had showed up say in September last year, Kleberson would not be in Malaysia right now!

It's very obvious from our side that Turkey will go for a draw. Gunes will leave Hakan Sukur at the offensive side and wait for contra attack;)

It will very likely be a draw:)

And, I'd be happy with a draw;)

But, for Turkey there is nothing like beating Brazil:tongue:
