Derby County signed Georgian international midfielder Georgi Kinkladze from Ajax for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old former Dynamo Tblisi and Manchester City player joined Derby in November on loan until the end of the
season. Derby and Ajax have now reached an agreement to make the transfer permanent, though, and Kinkladze signed a contract to
keep him at Pride Park until 2003.
``Jim Smith gave me the chance to return to English football and the support of the club and the fans has persuaded me to give
what I hope will be my best footballing years to Derby,''Kinkladze said.
The two clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee, although it is likely to be considerably less than the 5 million
pounds ($8 million) Ajax paid Manchester City for his services in May 1998.
