West Brom are set to sign Manchester United youngster Kieran
Richardson on loan for the remainder of the season.

Albion boss Bryan Robson is confident that the 20-year-old will have
moved to the Hawthorns before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Richardson was identified by Robson as one of the best of the
current crop of youngsters at Old Trafford.

His former boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen for the midfielder to gain
regular Premiership experience and he is likely to make his debut
for the Baggies against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Loan ranger links up with 'legend'

By Oliver Bhurrut

KIERAN Richardson sealed his loan move to The Hawthorns until the end of the
season and then revealed: "I can't wait to play for Bryan Robson."

But the Baggies boss insisted the Manchester United midfielder will have a
job on his hands breaking into an Albion side that has lost only once in the
last seven games.

"I've told Kieran he'll be competing against Zoltan Gera and Jonathan
Greening, so there is no guaranteed place there and he understands that,"
said Robson.

"Kieran has a lot of good attributes. He's athletic, quick and left-footed
which gives us a good balance.

"But if Gera and Greening keep performing then Kieran has a lot to do to get
in the team.

"In this division, you need competition for places and you do get injuries
and suspensions."

Richardson, who has scored twice in 21 career appearances for United,
including 11 as a substitute, is now relishing the challenge of helping
bottom-of-the-table Albion beat the drop.

"I'm definitely happy to go out on loan and get some experience," said the
20-year-old ace.

"I also want to show what I can do because I believe I have a lot to offer
West Brom.

"Bryan Robson is a legend at Manchester United and it's an honour for me to
go and play for him. I just can't wait to get started.

"West Brom are a hard-working side and the manager has stressed to me how
important the work ethic is to his team.

"That isn't a problem for me and hopefully I can bring a bit of creativity
to the team as well."

The Albion chief also revealed hopes are still alive of signing Burnley's
Richard Chaplow before the transfer window closes on Monday.

He said: "Our chairman put a renewed offer in for Chaplow last night and
we're waiting to hear back from Burnley."

Richardson set for bow

Kieran Richardson is included in West Brom's squad to face Crystal Palace
after joining on loan from Manchester United.

He is not guaranteed a place in the starting line-up, however, because of
the form of Jonathan Greening and Zoltan Gera.

Striker Kevin Campbell could return after being rested for the FA Cup tie
against Tottenham, but boss Bryan Robson faces a selection headache after
being impressed by Kanu and Robert Earnshaw at the weekend.

The only man on the injured list is Andy Johnson as he continues his
recuperation from knee ligament damage.

WBA (from): Hoult, Albrechtsen, Purse, Clement, Robinson, Gera, Scimeca,
Wallwork, Greening, Earnshaw. Campbell, Gaardsoe, Horsfield, Moore, Contra,
Kanu, Kuszczak, Richardson.

Well I agree.

But I dont think BR will change anything alas!
He wont even replace the appalling Purse for TG.

KR looks a great acquisition, his passing was firm and crisp, Riccy maybe forced into playing RB is Albrechtsen's injury doesn't recover in time. I hope not as we need MA's pace to deal with Huckerby.

Richardson gets an England Under-21 call-up
By Andy Toft
Feb 4, 2005, 12:53

Kieran Richardson is set to win his first England under-21 cap with boss
Peter Taylor admitting his move to Albion was a factor in his selection.

The midfielder, on loan from Manchester United, has been called into the
squad to face Holland at Pride Park next Tuesday and will join up with them
after the Baggies' Premiership trip to Norwich.

It is the first time the 20-year-old has been involved in the set-up.

His selection completes a momentous week for the youngster who completed a
loan move to Albion last Saturday before making his Hawthorns debut as a
second-half substitute against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Taylor has had high hopes for the player, particularly with the prospect of
him securing regular first team action with the Baggies.

"Kieran Richardson is a great talent who offers you a balance on the
left-hand side," he said.

"He's always found chances hard to come by at Manchester United with Ryan
Giggs around, but now he has the chance to establish himself at West Brom.

"I'm looking forward to working with him."

Richardson completed an impressive 18 minutes for Albion against Palace,
helping to swing the course of the game back in the Baggies' favour as they
mounted an inspired comeback.

Albion boss Bryan Robson was more than satisfied with his young charge's
peformance. "I thought Kieran made a good contribution when he came on," he
said.

"He passed the ball really well, had a lot of energy and showed composure
when we were chasing the game.

"When he came on the other night he wasn't fazed by it. He went all over the
pitch to get on the ball. He had good composure and tried to keep passing
it."

Richardson will be pushing for inclusion from the start against Norwich.

With Martin Albrechtsen only 50-50 chance with a hamstring injury, he could
be replaced at right-back by Riccardo Scimeca.

That would create a midfield vacancy with Richardson the leading contender.
New signing Richard Chaplow is also in the squad.

Ronnie: Strike it Rich Mar 4 2005

Ronnie Wallwork has urged Albion to make the most of Kieran Richardson
before he hits the big time.

Richardson, who is on loan from United until the end of this season,
has been ear-marked as one of the stars of the future at Old Trafford.

He has impressed for Albion, scoring on his full debut at Norwich and
rattling the crossbar against Southampton.

The 20-year-old will be one of the players to watch when Albion take
on Blues this Sunday, with Wall-work hopeful of seeing more from the
youngster before the end of this season.

But he admits it is unlikely Sir Alex Ferguson will allow Richardson
to make a permanent move to the Black Country - or anywhere else for that
matter.

And Wallwork, an ex-Manchester United player himself, reckons it could
be a only a matter of time before Richardson is a regular in the Red Devils'
side. Experience

"I remember Kieran from when I was at United - he's come in and done
well for us," said Wallwork.

"He got a great goal against Norwich and played well against
Southampton.

"He's a great player and will be good for us. It will also be a good
move for him to get some vital experience.

"If West Brom can get him then great but Alex Ferguson will be looking
at him and probably trying to keep him.

"And if he keeps going the way he is he will probably break into the
first team at United and become a regular.

"It's hard to do that at United but there's no reason why he can't do
it."

Wallwork also remembers Steve Bruce from his days at United.

The Manchester-born midfielder was coming through the ranks as Bruce
was coming to the end of his career at the club. But Wallwork is hoping
Bryan Robson will have the last laugh in the battle of the former United
team-mates this time.

"Steve was coming to the end of the career when I was there, " added
Wallwork.

"He has done a great job at Birmingham and was a great player at
United.

"I used to see him around the place but he may not even remember me.

"Our gaffer is friends with Steve but I hope he gets one over him this
time."

Richardson seeks Man Utd return

On-loan Manchester United player Kieran Richardson says he is not interested in a permanent move to West Brom after his current loan spell expires.
Richardson has been a big hit at the Hawthorns and said that although he was enjoying his time there, he was keen to earn a place in United's first team.

"I want to be a United player. At the moment I'm a West Brom player but I'm still contracted to United," he said.

"I'm doing well and the fans have taken to me but hopefully I'll go back."

Good luck to him too.
He has abit to learn still but shows great promise.

West Brom boss to seek new deal for Man Utd's Richardson
tribalfootball.com - May 16, 2005

West Brom boss Bryan Robson's first piece of business over the summer
market will be to convince Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
to allow him to hold onto Kieran Richardson next season on-loan.
Richardson was on the scoresheet for yesterday's win against Portsmouth
and has told teammates he could stay at the Hawthorns if they remain in
the Premiership.

Fergie will take Richardson back for preseason to assess the youngster
and depending on summer signings may allow the England U21
international to continue his education under Robson at the Baggies.

Boss "hopeful" on Kieran
BRYAN Robson remains "hopeful" about Albion's chances of landing Kieran
Richardson for next season.

The Baggies boss was hoping to know this week if the Manchester United loan
star, who has been called-up by England, would be back at The Hawthorns next
season.

But a planned meeting between Sir Alex Ferguson and Richardson has been put
on the back burner due to other commitments, leaving Robson on tenterhooks.

"I'd like to have known straight away if Kieran could come back to us next
season," said Robson.

"But it's been unfortunate the way it's worked out because Sir Alex is
preparing for the FA Cup final and Kieran getting called-up for England has
made it difficult for them to meet to see where Kieran is going to be next
season.

"But Sir Alex and Kieran know my feelings and as long as they are happy, I'd
love to have him here for another year.

"If Manchester United wanted to sell him, I'd buy him.

"He's an ambitious lad and has shown he can play Premiership football.

"He's playing in front of big crowds every week and he has enjoyed the
challenge of trying to keep us up.

"That shows what kind of character he is - he needs challenges in his life.

"That's why I think we've got a chance of getting him for next season
because I don't think he wants to go back for reserve-team football.

"He's got a hell of a task getting in United's first-team because of the
squad they've got.

"Therefore, I'm pretty hopeful we can get him back here next season."

Albion's history-making manager is also delighted Richardson's Baggies
displays have been enough to catch the eye of Sven-Goran Eriksson.

And he insisted the 20-year-old midfielder deserves his call-up to England's
America trip, where they will play games against USA and Colombia.

"Kieran being called up to the England squad is testament to everyone
concerned," Robson added.

"Nigel Pearson and I have worked hard on trying to improve him as a player
while he's been here.

"Full credit to Kieran for the way he went about his work and his character
around this place because he didn't come with a big-time attitude just
because he's from Manchester United.

"He got on really well with the lads and it shows if you start having a bit
of success and people are taking note of you, it doesn't matter what type of
player you are or what club you're at.

"If the club is getting good publicity then you can ease your way into
international set-ups.

"That is what Kieran did and it is because West Brom gave him the platform
to do that.

"If he'd still been playing in Manchester United's reserves at Altrincham
Football Club, he wouldn't have been in the England squad now."

Wellas Albion fans we can only cross our fingers and hope that Fergy loans him out to us to gain further premiership experience. I dont think he should worry about Sven picking him if he's playing for us as it was playing for us that he won the place in the first place. :)

I really do hope he comes back, but mayeb Fergy will want him for rotation. :(

Kieran's set for Baggies
Paul Hince

STAR IN THE MAKING: Kieran Richardson

BRYAN Robson is ready to solve Kieran Richardson's agonising club-or-country
dilemma by taking the young winger back to West Brom on a full season's
loan.

Richardson, 20, who is no more than a fringe player at Manchester United,
became a household name overnight after his sensational two-goal debut for
England last Saturday.

That show-stealing display massively enhanced Richardson's chances of
claiming one of the five places which Sven-Goran Eriksson revealed are still
up for grabs in his England squad for next summer's World Cup finals in
Germany.

But Eriksson has stressed that those five open places will only be filled by
players who are commanding regular first-team football at their clubs - and
it is that proviso which has left Richardson in a state of turmoil.

With the brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo on one flank and evergreen Ryan Giggs
on the other, Richardson will almost certainly remain on the outside looking
in for the Reds next season to create a situation which would fatally damage
his international ambitions. But such is his passion for the Reds that the
youngster is prepared to make that sacrifice.

"As a kid I had a dream to play for Manchester United and I had to pursue
it," said Richardson. "Hopefully I can go back to Old Trafford and help
United win the title next season.

"I want to play for my country but I also want to sign a new contract with
United and my dad, Clyde, will be talking about that with Sir Alex Ferguson
this summer."

Formula

However, Old Trafford legend Robson believes he has come up with a formula
which will provide Richardson with the first-team football he needs to
remain in the England squad without the winger having to end his United
career.

When Ferguson returns from holiday, his former captain, now West Brom
manager, will ask his old mentor if he can take Richardson back to the
Hawthorns on a one-year loan deal.

And the indications are that Fergie will agree to that request.

From being a bit-part player at Old Trafford, Richardson blossomed under
Robson's guidance at the Hawthorns during the second half of the season and
played a big part in West Brom's dramatic relegation escape.

With another season of guaranteed Premiership income, Robson has the money
to make a cash bid, but knows such a move would fail because of Ferguson's
belief that Richardson has a big career ahead of him at United.

"I never had any doubts that Kieran would make the England squad one day,"
said Robson. "I had a spell working with the youngsters at United and Kieran
immediately caught my eye. I thought then he was a bit special, and he's
proved me right."

Richardson sets United goal

RICHARDSON: Target
WORLD Cup hopeful Kieran Richardson has given himself three years to realise
his dream of becoming a Manchester United first-team regular.
Six months ago, the odds on Richardson achieving his ambition would have been
high in the extreme.
Squeezed out of the first-team picture at Old Trafford following the
embarrassing FA Cup draw with non-league Exeter, the Londoner's chances of winning
favour with Sir Alex Ferguson appeared remote.

But a chance inquiry from West Brom boss Bryan Robson near the end of January
has transformed Richardson's career. Not only did it provide him with 12
Premiership appearances when he previously had none, it also offered the
platform from which the midfielder propelled himself into Sven-Goran Eriksson's
England squad.
Richardson and his father Clyde, who has masterminded his career to date, are
acutely aware the only way he will break into Eriksson's 22-man party is
through regular appearances at club level.
But such is the player's desire to make it at United, he is prepared to
gamble a World Cup berth on the chances of success.
"If I get to 23 and I am still not getting through, I might have to move onto
another club but at the moment I am not thinking about that," said the
20-year-old Greenwich-born star.
"I am contracted to Manchester United and that is who I want to play for.
"Hopefully what I have achieved over the last few months has given Sir Alex
Ferguson food for thought. He said it would be a good experience for me to go
out on loan and it would only benefit my career.
"Now I just want to get back to Manchester United, try to establish myself
and help them win the Premiership title."
Ferguson appears to share the same sentiments given he has already intimated
he is willing to extend Richardson's contract, which is due to expire just as
England's World Cup campaign is drawing to its conclusion.
The youngster's return to Carrington could almost be viewed as a new signing
given the vast strides he has made since his departure and though Ryan Giggs'
Red Devils future is now secured for another three years, the veteran winger
looks set to face stiff competition for his starting berth.
"I don't see myself going back to United and playing in central midfield as I
did for West Brom," Richardson admitted.
"I played left-wing for England at under-21 level and did quite well and that
is also where I have played for United. Long-term, there does not appear to
be many attacking left-sided midfield players around who are qualified for
England. Hopefully, I can force my way into that position at United and
continue the progress I have made so far."
Never one lacking in self-confidence, Richardson now has something concrete
to place some faith in his own ability. Robson's desire to see him return to
the Baggies following last term's stunning last-day survival is evidence of
the contribution Richardson made.
But although the player is looking forward to being at the Hawthorns when
United visit, he hopes it will be in a red shirt.
"My dream is to play for United against West Brom in the Premier League next
season," he revealed.
"I really enjoyed myself down there and when I do go back, I hope to get a
good reception from the fans."
But it is at Old Trafford where Richardson is determined to make his name,
and that means forcing his way into a midfield capable of housing the likes of
Giggs, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo and new arrival Park
Ji-Sung.
"It can be intimidating when you walk into a dressing room and you end up
sitting with Keane or Scholes," he said.
"But you have to remember they were once where you are now.
"All you can do is learn from them, take advice from them and try to
incorporate it within your game.
"I do believe in my ability and the last six months has gone much better than
I could ever have imagined, so long may it continue."

Baggies still chasing Kieran
BRYAN Robson predicts Kieran Richardson's Old Trafford future will become
clearer after Manchester United have played "three or four" pre-season
games.

The Baggies boss has made no secret of the fact he wants to bring former
loan signing Richardson back to The Hawthorns after the England star played
a pivotal part in the club's Great Escape.

"Kieran's situation will only be resolved when United have played their
first three or four pre-season games," said Robson

"It's where Kieran figures in Sir Alex Ferguson's plans after those games.

"If Sir Alex allows him to leave on loan, I believe we're in the driving
seat."

NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winger Kieran Richardson has opted not to return to West Bromwich Albion, saying he wants to fight for a first-team spot at Manchester United.
The England man had a successful loan spell at The Hawthorns last season, and Baggies boss Bryan Robson was hopeful the 20-year-old would return.
"I owe Bryan Robson a lot because he took a gamble on me when I didn't have a great deal of experience," he said.
"I know he wanted me to go back but I want to make it at Manchester United."
Richardson's fine performances at West Brom during the second half of the season contributed to the Baggies' successful fight against relegation.
They earned the midfielder a call-up for England's end-of-season tour to the United States, and he scored twice on his international debut in a 2-1 win over the home nation in Chicago.

Richardson played for 45 minutes in United's 3-1 friendly win at Wrexham on Tuesday and boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he expected the youngster to press hard for a regular starting place.
"Kieran has made great improvements in his game," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"Obviously he wants first-team football but he is prepared to battle for it here. It's a challenge but he will get opportunities if he is playing well.
"I like to see ambition in young players and Kieran is showing that."
The news will be a blow to Robson, but the West Brom boss has previously said he feels he has enough cover in his squad to cope with Richardson's absence.

yeah I think he will re-view the decision in Jan.
If he isn't getting games for Utd, he'll come back to the Hawthrons if Robbo wants him, is my guess.

Last-ditch midfielder swoop mooted Mon, Aug 29 2005 15:08
West Brom are reportedly set to offer Manchester United £3million for
midfielder Kieran Richardson before the transfer deadline.
Baggies boss Bryan Robson has been attempting to snare the player on
another season-long loan deal after his exceptional form last term
played a huge part in the club avoiding relegation back to the
Championship on the final day of last season.
He only arrived in the January transfer window alongside veteran
hitman Kevin Campbell from Everton and Robson was hoping to take him
for an entire season this time around which he felt could further
cement their position in the Premiership.

However Richardson opted to remain at Old Trafford and try and
achieve his dream of winning a regular place in the starting XI under
Sir Alex Ferguson's leadership.

Three games into the campaign and he has not featured in any league
games, although he played and scored against Debrecen of Hungary in
United's Champions League win last week.

As a result Robson is set to return with a cash offer and a promise
of regular first team action for a player who will be aware that,
having broken into Sven-Goran Eriksson's senior England squad, he
will need to be playing week in - week out if he is to have a chance
of being involved in next summer's World Cup.
