Kaladze set for Milan deal Friday 3 December, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakha Kaladze is on the verge of extending his contract at Milan, while Cagliari and Palermo keep hold of two key players.

"Adriano Galliani offered me a new deal last week," revealed the Georgian international defender.

"We’ll discuss the possibility further in January even if I’m ready to stay at this great club for life."

It had looked as if Kaladze’s stint at the San Siro was coming to an end given the stiff competition for places.

But boss Carlo Ancelotti has decided to use him regularly of late and he’s impressed for the outfit.

"I’m happy that the Coach has faith in me even if I just want to continue demonstrating my quality when I’m called upon," he added.

Meanwhile, Cagliari chief Massimo Cellino has confirmed that star player Antonio Langella will remain until 2008.

"This renewal demonstrates that this game is still clean," he stated. "Langella will earn what a youth team player nets at a big club."

Palermo have also handed a new agreement to Mario Alberto Santana – despite talk of a January exit.

He was linked with a move to Roma but the Brazilian winger has committed his future to the Sicilian side until 2009. His previous deal expired in 2006.

Kaladze suffers knee blow Tuesday 21 December, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakha Kaladze has been ruled out until mid-January with a knee injury, while Milan look back on their draw at Juventus.

The Georgian international was stretchered off during last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at the Stadio Delle Alpi and flew out to Antwerp for tests with specialist Professor Martens today.

Fears of ligament damage have been put to rest with news that it is only a sprain, so he’ll be out of action for at least three weeks.

“I worked very hard to get back to full fitness before this setback and I’m sure the Milan staff will help me recover from this as well,” said the defender.

“I think we played very well in Turin and it’s a shame we weren’t able to score, but that performance does give us the confidence to do even better in the future.”

Alessandro Costacurta was called at the last minute to replace Paolo Maldini, who suffered an injury in the warm-up, but was still one of the best players on the pitch.

“Everyone said Juventus are in bad shape, but I think their performance had more to do with Milan piling on the pressure,” commented the 38-year-old.

“We were extraordinary until we got to the final ball in, but we can’t complain at dominating the leaders in their own back yard.”

Kaladze is clearly a very good player, but I don't think that playing as fullback is best for him and for us. He can play there if needed, but CB or defensive midfielder suit him better.

He could be one player on his way at the end of the season sadly.I do like him but I think we will be looking at players with more consistency to their game ala the obvious suspects solari and Jankulovski.
