Hey guys...

We're having a discussion in the brazilian board about the term "wingers". I'm saying that wingers are players who play in the extremes, it can be a side midfielder like Pires, Giggs, Mancini, etc or an attacker, like Claudio Lopez, Denilson, Figo, etc....

The other guy says you use this term in the English language just when you refer to forwards who play in the extremes...

Who is right?

My understanding of it is that the term winger used to mean a forward who played wide. However, as nower days there is very few such players, the term has evolved to mean a wdie midfielder.

Could be wrong tho.

According to a book I have a winger is defined as forward left/right. But as explained earlier it is generally accepted that wingers these days are left midfielders rather than forwards.
