AMMAN — Jordanian sportspeople will play in support of victims of the tsunami that has so far claimed the lives of 175,000 people in Southeast Asia.

Jordan Football Association President HRH Prince Ali announced that revenue from the Jan. 28 match between the Kingdom's national team and its Norwegian counterpart would be donated to help victims of the tsunami that struck eight Asian countries on Dec. 26, 2004.

The Jordan Basketball Federation also announced that revenue from the Jan. 19 “all-star match” grouping the top players in the league against the foreign players in the First Division would also be in support of victims ravaged by devastating tidal waves which affected Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Maldives, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar (Burma) and Malaysia.

Jordan was among the first Arab countries to send aid to Southeast Asia, after the region was devastated by the tsunami, which left a catastrophic trail of death and destruction killing tens of thousands and causing severe damage in countries bordering the Indian Ocean.

Upon His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, Jordan airlifted emergency relief, doctors, field hospitals, food and blankets through the Hashemite Charity Organisation to victims in the region.

Jordan Telecom also designated Jan. 7 a day of free calls to eight Asian countries devastated by the tsunami, to enable expatriates from these countries to contact their relatives and friends.

Other initiatives include MobileCom which provided a donation channel for its subscribers to the charity campaign in coordination with the Jordanian Red Crescent Society to provide humanitarian support to victims of the tsunami disaster.

On the other hand El-Gohary the Egyptian coach of the Jordanian National Team has selected a very young and talented side to meet the Norwegian NT amongest them Thaer El-Bawab the Jordanian young player who plays for Ream Madrid B and their top goal scorer 18 years, also selected two expert players Faisal Ibraheem 28 years and the proffesional player Bashar Bani Yasin 26 years who plays in Muharag in Bahrain. El-Gohary has left 80% of the players played with him most of the competitions in the last two years like Haitham El-Shobol, Moayed Salim, Abdallah Abu Zama and Mahmoud Shilbaya, even though news confirmed El-Gohary giving Shilbaya and El-Shobol a chance to join the team again, the latter is the pichichi of the Jordanian league with 7 goals in 8 rounds.
