JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in European football, as Atletico Madrid slide towards relegation, even despite the goals of their leading scorer.
Lazio have now thrown their hat into the ring, with a view to signing the former Boavista striker, with, incredibly, another of his ex-clubs, Leeds, being credited with an interest in buying a player who left Elland Road in such acrimonious circumstances last summer.

Valencia, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Monaco, Parma and Tottenham have also been linked with the Atletico attacker, and the current rumour has it that he will be loaned out for one season, whilst his club bid to get back into the top flight at the first attempt.

Lazio would prefer a permanent deal, with Sergio Cragnotti determined to pair Claudio 'Piojo' Lopez with the Dutchman in his attack next season. Hasselbaink would be interested in a switch to Italy in a bid to further his career, and a move to Rome is certainly appealing.

Any interest from Leeds, who are one of the clubs touted in the AS newspaper in Spain, would be surprising, considering the manner in which the Dutchman (pictured in his Elland Road days) departed the Yorkshire club.

Manager David O'Leary admitted, tongue-in-cheek, that he would welcome the player back for nothing, should Atletico be unable to fulfil their financial obligations of the transfer, but the Irishman is likely to save his millions for another striker.
